My Resume
Revised Draft (thanks everyone!)

Would anyone care to briefly critique my resume? I've gotten compliments about it before, but now that I've updated it, it seems a little cluttered (i.e.: is it difficult to determine where my projects were and what my position was?). Should I try combining all of my research projects together into one large section? My intention was to show that they're separate projects done each semester. Should I make a title for each project underneath "Volunteer Research Assistant"?

seems fine to me, not too cluttered in my eyes and I've dealt with a few very cluttered resumes

I'd make a title for each project. Since the lab is the location of where you worked, you don't really need it. You should put your project title on the first line rather than the lab title. If you put the location, Purdue, under the dates on the right hand side then you can save a line as well.

ie:
NASA Cassini-Huygens Mission to Saturn & Titan
Mission Operations Assistant for the Ion Neutral Mass Spectrometer (INMS) team

Project Title
Volunteer Research Assistant at laboratory for advanced propulsion

I would disagree. If you have a specific area such as electronics, or applied physics TYPE of job in mind then I would put that down. Otherwise, the only useful thing your objective says is that you want a summer internship.

ie:
To obtain a summer research internship as an [applied physicist/aerospace engineer/electrical engineer] in the area of [physics/aeronautics/avionics/hardware/astrodynamics].

Edit:
Useful tip: Add in the date of the last saved version in the footer (you can insert it in Word 03+ and autoupdate). It can really help to know what version of your resume an employer is looking at when they're interviewing you.

I'll agree that the current objective statement is pretty useless. I assume that you're applying to High Pressure Laboratories, in which case they already know that you're seeking a summer research position with them. If you're going to include an objective statement for an internship (which isn't really necessary), it should give general information about the field you want to go into, not the specific company/position you're applying for.

The research experience section should be reworked completely. As of right now, it's completely redundant and wastes a ton of space. You could do what sunzt suggested. I would recommend putting them all under the heading, "Laboratory for Electrical and Advanced Propulsion, Purdue University." I would change the text to something like the following:
  • Authored software to automate data analysis to evaluate and resolve thruster design flaws
  • Designed, constructed, and validated thrust stand for plasma thrusters
  • Developed master curve for electrostatic fins for thrust stand resulting in authorship of paper for [name of conference]

I would leave out details that you're unlikely to need at an internship, like machining, CAD, and so on. If this isn't implied by "designed and constructed," then they will ask in an interview how you designed and constructed so you can tell them. Leave obvious questions for them to ask during an interview and it'll make things easier for you. Also, spell out RF. Abbreviations are a bad idea, even if you're 99% sure that the reader will know what they mean. I read RF and immediately think radio frequency, but any ambiguity can be bad here. These guys are looking for a way to toss your resume, and if they don't understand what you've done, they will toss it. I also don't know what a thrust stand is, though I can probably guess. I'm also not an aerospace engineer, so the terminology you use in fluid mechanics is obviously different than mine.

You'll notice I also reversed the order of your accomplishments at this position. The previous method was simply too confusing for anyone reading straight through the resume.

This should also free up quite a bit of space and allow you to expand your other experience. Even if it's seemingly unrelated, previous jobs can be very helpful when applying for an interim research position. I got one of mine because of my experience as a construction worker.

edit: wtf... I went through all the trouble to include bullets in the code, then they don't appear in the forum. :frown:

Objective is old. You could replace it with Career Summary or just leave it out altogether

I wish my resume looked that sexy

MY only remark would be where you say "Limited MATLAB" and the like, I Would just put "MATLAB", if you know enough to put it down then I personnally would qualify it. I mean you don't want to lie, but a resume is supposed to show you in the best light possible imo even if you have to stretch the truth a little (and really, its not like the vast majority of MATLAB users know more than a small faction of all the functions in MATLAB there are so fucking many).

I dunno, I didn't like the lines going down..but then again I am probably less experienced than you in resume making so I am more than likely wrong

Second Draft

I corrected a lot of the details that everyone caught (removed 'Limited', justified text, added project titles, expanded a little on the objective), but overall everything is still the same. I only reworded my research project and kept all the details about machining parts since the High Pressure Laboratories are actually right next to a machine shop, and surely it'd be helpful to have someone who can make small parts.
