Quick stupid question about MB's

Hi all, I haven't assembled a machine in a while so my knowledge is kinda rusted. My current MB is attached to the case with the riser (if that's the correct term), red round paper insulator, and then the actual MB. A friend says those red paper insulators are no longer necessary. Is this true? I just don't wanna fry a new MB trying it... Thanks!

I don't know if they were a requirement at one time, but they don't seem to be nowadays. Having metal-to-metal contact between the board and the case standoffs is not inherently bad. Now, if the standoffs are really large in diameter and touch the circuit traces, you could have problems.

They definitely were needed at one point in time. I found this out the hard way by frying a MB... Anyway, I just want to confirm what my friend was saying. Thanks!

Yep, i haven't used those little red paper thing's in awhile. There useless unless you spot a short.
