The Asus TUSL2-C would be my choice. The Asus TUV4X would be less expensive and a decent alternative.

Personally, I would say get a P4 Celeron 1.7Ghz socket 478 CPU for less than $100 and an ECS P4S5A motherboard for less than $70. The motherboard allows you to use either DDR or PC133 ram.

I`d agree with the TUSL2 - I have the Pre-tualatin CUSL2 which has to be the ultimate Intel based OC board for coppermines and Ive yet to see a board with more USB ports (7) - BUT from what I remember they removed the Voltage control from the TUSL2 version ..

If you want 1Mhz FSB adjustment, enough PCI slots, totally stable operation (With a VIA!!) and the ability to run the RAM Async (though still no CPU Voltage adjustment) why not save a whole wad of cash and get a Jetway 694TAS? - £50 (probably $50 in the USA), it`s based on the VIA 694T Chipset, has a brilliant BIOS, the AGP actually works well unlike earlier Apollos - I hit 1400 at stock voltage with one of these from a 1200 Celly, was able to run the RAM @ 150Mhz for a noticable speed increase and it doesn`t have the ATX pwr connector in a stupid place... I hated previous VIA chipsets to the 694T (loadsa problems especially with AGP) - and performance wise I can`t say that I`m overimpressed with the i815E either (512Mb RAM limitation, no running the SDRAM Async @ 133 when the CPU is at 100 etc) but the Asus boards definately make the best use of this modernized but Crippled BX..

Not really. If you are overclocking, the ASUS has several limitations that other 815 boards dont have. The ABIT ST6 is the best if overclocking is important. If not, most any 815 board will do a good job.

Thanks to Oldfart and advice from others, I recently purchased an Abit ST6 motherboard. I found mine for a miniscule $61 at Mwave.com; with shipping it came out to about $68 total.

I think your abit choice was a good one but to correct Witchfinder, the tusl2-c does support vcore adjustment in bios 1011. Mine shipped with 1009, which doesn't have the vcore adjustment in the bios but has it in the manual description! Go figure? And other than that is a decent board from the little I've used it. I also have an asus tuv4x.

Problem with a TUSL2 is no 1/4 PCI divider below 133 FSB. This is a problem for C1.2 overclockers. All the xUSL2 boards also have a problem of going to AGP 2X and slowest ram timings over 140 FSB. There is a hacked BIOS to fix it. This is why the ST6 is a better overclockers board.

Thanks BlackHawk and Oldfart..

It`s back to the old chestnut of "Would you use a Beta BIOS" - I asked this in another forum wondering if there were any improvements with 1012 on the CUSL2 - it would seem that there were for the TU version.. Did they fix the AGP problem oldfart mentioned in any of these released?? ... and why have Asus stuck with 1009 as their official release for both boards? ..

I would have bought a TUSL2 for my Bro`s machine but of course Asus don`t tell ya what their beta BIOSes have updated so I thought I wasn`t paying out all that for "no voltage control", couldn`t find an Abit locally so got a £50 VIA Jetway - it works fine , still no voltage control but at least the RAM runs async @ 150Mhz )))

Asus has the 1011 bios on the website as the latest, although I could swear it was the 1009 last week when I was trying to find my vcore adjustments.
I've seen the beta 1012 but I dont use beta, I have enough problems figuring out the official ones & updating.

Two big mb beefs, the bios update procedure is too complicated & different for each manufacturer & the mb connectors for pwr, etc could be greatly simplified.

My tusl2-c is running my 1.1 at 1.466 right now while I set it up. Hope to go a bit higher when my fan gets here for the sk-6. The tuv4x also ran at 133 with this cpu at stock voltage with a larger than retail fan.

Dont know why I keep staying back with the old stuff.

I hope you arent running your system with the 133:100 FSB/ram option. This causes a HUGE performance hit. Run your system 133:133. If your ran cant handle 150 MHz, lower your overclock. You will still have a faster system.

What are your temps that you need a better fan? I was under the impression that cooling isn't really an issue with these. Many have reported getting better HSF's but end up saying it makes little or no difference. The Celey Tu seem to generally hit the wall at or just above 1.5 ghz core speed regardless of voltage or heat.
