What are some quiet 120 mm fans that still put out decent air? I figure my next case should use 120mm fans, since generally are quieter than 80 mm. I'm tired of listening to this hair dryer next me.

I've been through Pabst, Panaflo, Evercool and Antec 120mm fans. The king of quiet 120mm fans are Acoustifans. I have 2 of the 120mm Acoustifans. You can order them from quietpcusa for $30 a piece. They come with rubber isolation mounts and an inline resistor for 5v operation. Tell Steve that Jeff sent ya.

$30 is alot for a DC motor that spins some blast molded plastic. I just bought a Panaflo for $15 and its pretty quiet. Hell, if money's not a problem go for the $30 fan

BTW: If you are even slightly technically inclined, you can wire a rheostat into any fan to control speed, and buy a dozen rubber washers for under a dollar.

How quiet are those fans nebor?

I like evercool aluminum. I can't hear them at 5V (and they start at that voltage), and still pretty quiet at 7V. There's no bearing noise, which is a big plus for me.

I found them to basically be high performance fans. While it's true, they didn't have a great deal of motor noise (although noticable @ 5-7v) they move a colossal amount of air, which makes for quite a bit of air noise.

The Acoustifans are loved at SPCR, aside from the price.

Oh, oh, I forgot to mention. If you look for a Globe 120mm fan, it's been brought to light (once again at SPCR) that they are the exact same fan as the Acoustifan, except they are black! The best part? They're $7 each.

"Quite a bit of air noise" at 5V? Wow, you must have sensitive ears. To my ears its silent. I would agree that there is air noise at 7V but not at 5V.

I also like Evercool's aluminum fans; Directron actually has decent prices on them. The sound of air flowing makes up most of what I can hear, as opposed to turbulence from many other fans.

What do you prefer about Acoustifans over Papst? Papst fans are regarded as the best fans you can buy.

The Pabst I got exhibited some ticking, as is well documented over at SPCR. Plus they're hard to obtain.

The Acoustifan just does everything right. And if you can get the same thing in a Globe fan for $7, well that's just an all around winner.
