quiet 80mm fans for fileserver

I got a fileserver that i'm trying to quiet down some. Its not working too hard so no huge cooling need. I need one fan for case exhaust, and the other to mount on the heatsink for an old AMD barton cpu. I suppose for the heatsink its good for the fan to have good static pressure? The main emphasis is on quiet with good airflow though. There's too many options for my poor brain to sort through. Suggestions? If anyone knows of links to decent reviews, that's good too. Appreciate any help.

For a server, you want very loud fans. It makes the server more powerful. Nothing like starting up a Dell in the office and papers on the wall start to move.

On serious note, have you considered adding more fans, but running them at 5 volts? I do this for my some of my PC fans then I have a switch to fire other fans at full speed if I'm gaming. If you don't have a heat problem you can get away with this. I would monitor the temps well for a while to make sure it's still enough air though.

So, my opteron 246 w/ 14x 40x40x40mm fans @ ~13K each is the win, right?

It was so loud that my downstairs neighbors were complaining. Ended up moving to a data center and runs DNS.

I've had good luck with Vantec Stealth fans for being quiet and reliable.

As well as Scythe S-Flex fans I've recently ordered are great.

Short answer: Nexus "Real Silent" is a safe bet in any size.

I bought some Scythe Kama Flow, supposedly comparable to the Nexus Real Silent. The 1500rpm was indeed silent, the 2000rpm model not so much. Moral of the story...80mm fans suck and I doubt there's anything at all silent above 1500rpm.

It was about this point that I said screw it and switched cases to a CM 690 stripped down to the front stock 120mm and a 140mm yate loon at the top, both on a fan controller i had wandering around, mounted facing the inside of the case so as to hide the lights and keep the outside looking clean. I put the scythe 2000rpm on the cpu heatsink and the mobo seems to be throttling it down to inaudible levels. Overall, the setup is way more capable than required and keeps the Barton 3200+ running it at less than 40c idle (!), but it is dead silent.
