Quiet case fans

Does anyone here have experience with a Papst 8412NGL case fan? At 12 db, they're supposed to be the quietest available (see http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/00025.html ), but I wanted a second opinion before I shelled out $19 per fan for them.

Oh sweet jesus, yes. Silent like a tomb, and still moves ~20CFM. Nice choice.
I love the Zalman "flower cooler" for the AXP they've got, but it's a 2-lug clip. Wonder if I can find a replacement anywhere?

19 the Pabst fans are "silen like a tomb" MercenaryForHire posted, but there is no way that I would spend $19.00 on a case fan. I'd suggest a case fan by Panaflo, though not as silent as the Papst fans [they are a hair louder,] but cost around $5.00 or so.

or a silent YS-Tech fan. you can get them, 20dBa so not as quiet as the Papst but alot quieter than most. 27CFM so it pushes far more air.
and the papst fan that you mentioned pushes around 16CFM not 20CFM.

Panaflo FBA08A12L...very quiet..only $3.19 each...

I have some Panaflos, and they are quiet...but.....I've found some fans that at the same CFM output or higher then the Panaflos, actually put out lower decibels. So then shouldn't these fans be quieter? Or, in other words, everyone rants and raves about panaflos being quiet, but if you find a fan with similar specs, but lower decibels wouldn't they be quieter than panaflos?

Fan manufactures have been known to play around with the numbers, like Vantec, the stealths are rated the same dbas as the panaflos, but actually produce a noticable whine. So you can take your chances and go with the other fan or you can go with a proven fan.

Thanks, here's another interesting question:

the fan on my cpu hss puts out about 24 cfm but spins at like 5,000 rpms and is 60x60x10. If I get a fan adapter and replace it with a panaflo that puts out the same cfm, but is much quieter since it only spins at 1900 rpms, would this be good enough to keep the heatsink and cpu as cool as the original fan?

Thanks Jfano for the lead on the panaflo 1900 RPM fans. Two questions do the panaflo's have speed sensor leads on them? I have seen some comments that saw they do not. Also any leads on cheep 2500 RPM panaflo fans. I am using a few fans with the antec true power fan connectors that slow down the fans according to the power supply temp readings. If I slow the 1900 down to much the air might forget which way to go.
