Quiet Heatsink for Athlon 2000XP

Hi,

I've had my Athlon 2000XP for about a year. The system is a little loud with a Taisol HS and 60mm Panaflow fan and I would like to upgrade to a heatsink that is silent or very quiet.

Looking to spend around $50. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm using an SLK-800/800a and a stealth fan on it. Runs at about ~22dBa

I'm really strict on the quiet thing, my HSF is quieter than my PSU (550w TruePower)

I'm using a sk-7 and a 80mm panaflo L1a, which i love. cools great and is so so quiet.

Might also want to try a Zalman cooler. I have a Zalman 6000Cu CNPS on my 2000+ and it's pretty darn quiet. They also have a new version out, the 7000Cu I think? Might be somewhat less noisy.

Im using the Zalman 3000 Plus....its the flower style with the 92mm fan...I use a Nexus to keep it down, but with everything down its pretty quiet.

Last time i heard a heatsink make noise was when i ran my finger nail through its fins, it makes a cool ring.

If you want a quiet fan, get a noiseblocker. They make less noise then panaflos and push more cfms. The thing is, if youre in the us, i dunno where you could get one.

For all you panaflo fans:

80mm Panaflo: 24CFM - 21dBA
80mm Noiseblocker S1: 22CFM - 11dBa
80mm Noiseblocker S2: 32CFM - 19dBa

Thats at their fastest setting , since they are variably controled (panaflos cant do that)

I would try modding a thermalright sp94 to fit an athlon. You might even get away with passive cooling and just use the flow in your case.
If not, get a 900cu, not the 900a, because aluminum is totally unacceptble.
Then put a 120mm Noiseblocker SX2 (64CFM - 26DBa!!) with an adapter, or a 120mm SX2 variable controled at low setting (40CFM - 18dBa!!)

As you can see, noiseblockers are superior to panaflos, and prettier (clear frame, blue blades). Anything below 20dBa is inaudible at 1 meter distance, 20-22 however is audible since the dBa scale is exponential.

The 900 would get my vote. Can you recall where they were selling for $20? I'm seeing 30+ everywhere I look.

Check out the Speeze Falconrock at Newegg for a quiet cooler that's both inexpensive and effective. Be sure that there's sufficient clearance on your board...
