Quiet HSF

can anyone suggest some nice quiet HSFs? currently ihave a super orb, it does the job, buts its kinda loud with the dual fans.

Find the size (most likely 60mm) and replace them with Panflo fans. They tend to be the quitest on the market.

Taisol CGK742092 is a VERY quiet HSF and it does a great cooling job. It keeps my Duron 600 running at 1gig nicely cool and quiet.

The other way to get a quiet HSF is to take a 60mm->80mm adapter, and use a quiet 80mm fan. It pushes as much air as the high end 60mm, but is much quieter.

Of course, this will not work on a gorb.

Actually the ADDA 60mm is quieter than the Panaflo. It also moves more air as I remember. For a quiet yet effective combination go with the 60mm ADDA and either the Taisol CKG742092 or the Alpha PAL6035 or the Thermoengine. This last one is the only one I havn't used myself but I should get it from FedEx today so I will know more in a few days (I have to wait for the MoBo/Processor and I have to lap the thing before I can use it.)

I don't think this is a good idea. The Panaflo 60mm just doesn't move enough air. For instance, the Panaflo 60mm is rated at 12 CPM and 24dB. The VolcanoII, regarded as a quiet HSF, is rated at 36CFM (prob. 26) and 31.5dB. So the Panaflo can only move 1/3 to 1/2 the air at 3/4 the noise.

hey..heres an idea..just get a globalwin gbk32 w/ a delta and get ear plugs !

Overclockers.com did a test with the Thermoengine tested with a slow fan and they got very mediocre results. That heatsink appears to need a 27+CFM fan to be effective.

If you want a quiet cooler check this bad boy out, Noise-Control Silverado @ Tom's Hardware. You can order them directly from the manufacturer's website. They are $62 US and will take a few weeks to arrive cause they're swamped with orders.
