I just got a LIAN-LI PC65 and an Asus A7V8X (yup merry Christmas to me). I need to put in a quiet power supply and some quiet case fans. I'll be running 4-6 IDE hard drives and 2 CDROM drives. What is a good quiet PS? ENERMAX EG465P-VE? What is a good quiet case fan? Panflo?

Thanks.

Edit: I guess it would be good to have a quiet CPU fan as well. I'm thinking an overclocked AthlonXP 2400 is where I'll be going. Is the Heat Pipe HSF HHC-L61 a good cooler without too much noise? Any other recommendations?

Thanks again.

Both Antec Truepower & Enermax users seem to like saying their PSU's are v quiet - I can vouch for my Antec TP 430 anyway. Case fans Panaflo, but dont discount some "quiet" or "silent" YS-Tech's, actually I have a couple of v cheap Evercool lownoise fans, very quiet and very low price - the one on the truepower fan line (adjusts fan speed) is nearly silent. My plan is to have a 80mm Evercool and a 80mm ystech on both intake and exhaust. I'd go panaflo but ystechs look about as good and fair bit cheaper & more available over here.

As for CPU fan, I think a fair bit depends on your heatsink - if you use a hardcore overclocker / very efficient heatsink like thermalright SLK-800 (review@hardocp) will allow a slower & quieter fan; some (like that SLK) will also take 70 or 80mm fans which are nearly always quieter for more airflow (but have a bigger "deadspot", maybe?).

those coolermaster heat pipes dont seem to get rated particularily well, esp for the price. I did have a really good url for a huge cooler roundup, like 30 coolers or something, but cant seem to find it :|

With that many drives, you might want to step up to, say, a TruePower 550 for the reserve power. Somehow, with 4 to 6 hard drives, I can't envision the system being very quiet unless they're all Barracuda ATA IV's or V's, however. I second Davegod's suggestion of that SLK-800 with a quiet 80mm fan. Sounds like it's a very merry Christmas at your house, have fun with your new rig!

You might also want to consider the Vantec Stealth case fans. They run about the same db as panaflo with more cfm.

I just put 4 of these in my Antec case and am very pleased with them. I got them on a buy 2 get 3rd free from Here

You may want to consider some acustic material on the bottom, top and sides of your case with all those drives and fans.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll check everything out. I'm not looking for a silent case, but don't want it to be any louder than it has to be either.

Thanks.

Perhaps the newer Enermax's are quieter--I stopped buying them about a year ago when I found that I had to mod them for quiet. I've found the Antec Trupower to be much quieter.

I think I'm going to go with the Enermax because one of the fans is adjustable. I also decided to open up the case and found that it's got ADDA fans rated as follows:

Low Speed 80mm fan
Rated Speed: 2030 RPM + - 10%
Air Flow: 26.2 CFM (min at rero static pressure)
Static Air Pressure: 1.98 mmAq
Noise Level: 22.5 dBA Nominal

I think I'll stick with those fans, but does anybody know where I can get a converter to plug a 4-wire fan into a header on my motherboard?

Thanks all of the help.

I have the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 400 ATX Power Supply with two Silencer Case Fans, one for the front and one in the back.

I have the PC Power & Cooling Economical Mid-Tower Case.

The PSU is $ 175, the Computer Case is $ 60 and the Silencer Fans are $ 10 Each.

I have no problems and my System is as Cool as with any Aluminum Computer Case.

I have the AMD Athlon 2700+ CPU.
