What's the average decible level of the volcano 7? I'm not running the plus version, so there is no speed varience on it. Also, still waiting to hear from someone about the iceberg. Has anyone out there tried it?

Yeah, those grills look sweet, but definitely make the fans much louder.
Consider: Thermaltake has a new style grill for their Xaser series, they're spaced out from the fan, maybe quieter? Look around, I 'll bet you could pick one up somewhere and try it out.. lemme know if you find anything conclusive.

btw, try for some commas and periods.. makes it easier to read wtf you're saying

I wonder if a set of those cardboard washers you get with most computer toolkits placed between the fan grill and the fan itself would kill the extra noise generated by the grill, but allow you to keep the cool-looking appearance?

Also, has anyone had experiences with replacing the fans in power supplies? I think that half of the noise problem in my case is coming from my PS (it's an Enermax, non-silencer series). I'd love to replace the fans in it with Vantec Stealth fans, but I've never taken apart a PS and I'm not sure how easy it is to replace those fans. Any advice would be appreciated.

With a Alpha PAL 8045 would a Vantec Stealth do a good job cooling it silently?
What about the papst fans I've been hearing about?
And the Panaflo?

What kind of noise/cooling do they have relative to eachother?

ernieD, power supplies aren't that hard to take apart. Obviously, take proper precautions. It's not recommended that you take them apart, but if you do, you just pop off a few screws, unscrew the fans, strip the wires for the fan you want to replace, and then just twist them together with the existing wires of the old fan. Still waiting on any comments about the Iceberg system...

Possibly it would reduce some noise given the extra space between the grill and the fan. The extra noise is primarily a source of turbulent air around the fan due to the grill, not vibration and such

Once you take apart a power supply, you'll see that the fan is actually relatively isolated from the other interior components of the power supply. It's not so intiimidating once you have a look

Thanks for the info, godmare and kcbas. I am going to be removing the fan grills from my volcano 9 and 7+ in my two boxes tonight, see how much that helps. I'll have to take apart my one power supply since I think the bottom fan in it died. But I may just get a 350W Enermax Whisper series to replace the really loud one.

Thanks again.

Also ordered a tbred 1700+ on friday we'll see if I get the tredB or not if this heatsinks is all it's cracked up to be I might have to get another tbred 1700+ and underclock it with one of these heatsinks for a quieter server on like a ktturbo2 version 5 board or something quiet. punctuation what's that?

1700+ tbred + SLK800 + NMB 80mm will work fine. I'm running that right now with a 250W Enlight power supply modded with an NMB and every thing runs fine inside an all aluminum skyhawk case. CPU Idles 34-38C depending on room temp. CPU Full load 46-48C. 1 NMB on the case intake as well.
