After carefully dissecting my out of warranty Sony Vaio XG-29 notebook, I have found the source of its high pitched whine. Its 20GB IBM Travelstar hard drive is a noisy beast that I want to replace.
I'm aiming for a hard drive that's as close to silent as possible. It must be able to fit the low profile bay inside the the notebook case. Power consumption isn't a huge factor as I rarely use this notebook on the go (ergo wall adapter 99% of the time). I don't care much about the capacity of the replacement hard drive either, as most of my files are stored on a local file server.
Thanks!
