Quietest aftermarket cooler for 9600GT

I'm getting the MSI 9600GT, but in case it's too loud for me, I am wondering what the quietest aftermarket cooler is?

I saw the Thermalright vga coolers, but they're ridiculously expensive. I could just buy a passive heating vga card for those prices.

A passive accelero S1 or S2 should be the quietest cooler possible.

ECS has a 9600GT with an S2 on it. If you don't go with that particular ECS straight up you can always get an S2 and swap the coolers on your own Text

Likely. I've got one on my GT and it's completely silent at max RPM.
you've got a noisy case and/or environment and/or you're deaf if you can't tell that it makes a decent amount of noise at max RPM

The 9600 GT's run pretty quiet already.

Try it out first before adding the cooler.

MSI has nice aftermarket coolers on their line.

Yeah, I noticed that the ECS had one on it as stock. I just couldn't find any stores that carried that particular ECS card.

I also assume the S1 is actually a better cooler than the S2, correct?

That's only if you have good case airflow, and even then, a good, quiet 120mm fan would cool it a lot better than a stock 9600 cooler would.

I can't even tell the fan is running on my Evga 9600gt sc but idle temps are still fine. I think it's the reference cooler to so if I were you I wouldn't worry about getting a better cooler just yet.

I've found that the MSI 9600GT isn't reference.

Plus, it's very loud in my own opinion. I can't imagine what the XFX 8800GS might be like since some people consider this MSI 9600GT (red color PCB) to be quiet.

It starts off very loud and then it gets quieter, but it still has a bit of a machine gun like noise rather than a soft whir of small fans so I can hear it even when it's hidden inside the closet.

I turned off the stock fan and stuck a Yate Loon RDH8025B 80x25 fan on top of the plastic casing above the stock fan and undervolted my fan to 5v. It's running around 50c even under load, and so far ok.

I'll be switching to a 80x15 fan soon so that I get at least one PCI slot open.

In my case wires are spliced and I don't use the PSU fan control leads, and I run it off of the cards own PWM pin and I use Riva Tuner with Zalman and it's extremely quiet overall, and I don't allow max RPM as it doesn't need it anyway as I never see over 72c.

Generally the only problem with those pre-attached acceleros is that they get knocked loose during shipping... Figures.
