Roots: for instructions on how to do the 7 volt mod, do a search in this forum or find instructions on most any modding site (I think overclockers.com is the place I read about it at). What you need to do to run at 7 volt is change a 4 pin to 3 pin adapter around such that the positive line will be the 12v + and the negative line will be the 5 v + rail. What does that mean? Get a 4 pin to 3 pin adapter, swap the wires on the 4 pin part of it around such that the red (usu, red) from the Power Supply connects to the black wire for the adapter (the black wire with the tiny wire leading to the fan). You will have to push in little metal tabs to remove the pins. This will make no sense to you until you mess around trying it... so google " 7 volt mod fan "
An alternative I learned recently from someone on this forum is to run at 6 volts by wiring your fans up in series. I did that recently with some L1A's but they seem to stay stopped when I interrupt their turning (whereas they kick right back up at 7 volts).
BTW: I really, really doubt your system temp will be 8 C higher than your CPU temp... I think your sensors might be a tad off or reversed.
