Quietest PATA HDD

I want to replace my Hitachi PATA HDD that came with my external Firewire enclosure b/c I think it's a Deathstar and b/c it's loud as hell (high frequency whine). I've tried both of the aforementioned brands, but never really paid attention to noise levels before putting them into their respective cases (used them internally, never externally). Thus, suggestions?

Everybody is going with Seagate for reliability. I don't know about noise though. Depending on your application, you may want to consider a 5400 RPM drive to reduce noise. I believe that a 5400 RPM drive can keep up with a firewire connection. Anyone know for sure?

Easily, and buy a Seagate?just my 2 cents!

I have a seagate 7200.7 PATA in one of my comps and it is pretty quiet, at least quiet compared to the WD that I have in the same comp.

I doubt the Hitachi is from the Deathstar (75gxp) line of drives. The whining is likely just your bearings starting to age. I would think that the heat in a small enclosure (particularly if its fanless) would add to the early demise of the drive.

That being said, Samsungs may be quieter, but the Seagate warranty should be taken into consideration.
