So far so good but I'm still wanting to smoke that's for sure!, I guess after 32 years that's to be expected. Last time I tried I had a fataly flawed plan, " I've been so good I'll just have one before I go to bed". After reading a lot on whyquit.com that idea will never work, ever so this time it's 0 smokes, I threw them and all the ashtrays out in monday's trash, wish me luck!..

GL!. I used nicotine gum to quit. I was hoping that I could get rid of the notion that I need to be sucking on a cancer stick in certain environments and at certain time intervals first, and then deal with the actual nicotine addiction. It's been 3 months and I've pretty well done step 1, now I gotta get off the gum. It's harder than it sounds, actually.

More than eating right or exercising, smoking cessation is the best thing you can do for health.

So the cost finally made you do it?

The plan is working

If you've made it through the first week you've done the hard part. As long as you don't ever have "just one" you'll be free for good.

Try brushing your teeth when you think you just can't get by. At least you'll have very clean teeth - and breath.

The psychological desire will remain long after the physical is gone. It could be around for up to a year. One of the failure points is around six months when you think you've kicked the habit and think you can have one or two. Most people can't.

even roll your own

my brother rolled his own for a while, said he smoked less when he did that, and that it was cheaper. he works in a restaurant though, so while he prefers to smoke a pipe over anything else, he either rolls or buys cheap cigs for work breaks since he doesnt have time for a pipe.

Thanks to all for the encouragement, as far as rolling your own the Obama folks pretty much wiped out that option as well, 1lb was going for $16-17 but got jacked to $39-40. Wife's problem with occluded artery in leg was main reason we both quit. I was watching one of the shows that helps analyze stocks, (I forget which one), they made Phillip-Morris a "buy" recommendation, the commentator replied " their customers use the product until they DIE from using the product, now THAT"S brand loyalty!!!"...

I was just kidding about the roll your own option. You should definitely quit smoking. Life sucks but its even worse without your health.

Yes indeed, I've been rewarding myself with Korona (but keep no smokes around!) and jumbo sized steaks. Yesterday I cooked a 1lb NY strip for dinner yum!.

Get suckers or something. Next time you feel the urge, chew a nicotine gum and suck on a lollipop

I've got a good assortment of tic-tac's and such but no nicotine gum. Any source of nicotine now would just prolong the process. Granted chewing gum (or wearing patches) gets rid of the health risk of burning tobacco but keeps you addicted to the nicotine..
