What nonsense. That's like saying I'm going to die because I'm marking the number of years since my birth, or your marriage will fail because you're counting anniversaries. Total non sequitur.

Let me guess. Are you a smoker or are you attempting to quit? I like arguments where someone talks in analogies. It's like...

I don't remember to be honest. It was sometime in 2001 or 2002. I smoke 1.5 to 2 packs per day.

i am allergic to cigerette smoke, so i have never had any, but then I love shishas (Water pipes). i smoke them for an hour when I got to one of these shisha restaurants with friends, which is usually once a week only.

how bad is that?

This is the best news I've had all day.

I'm off to tell the wife no need to celebrate those anniversaries anymore, once we are married, we are married, no need to be keeping track of the time.

She is going to be thrilled to hear the news.

Those are totally unrelated topics. Analogy fail.

Seriously. Counting each day is frequently a strength of quitting. AA often does this and counts landmarks. Plenty of people quit that way.

Apparently the ability to
a) memorize a date
b) subtract
are correlated with inability to quit.

I quit smoking in the spring of 1971, 2 packs a day. Keep up the good work, you can do it!

Today was my last day of lectures and now I'm relaxing on the porch with a fresh six-pack of excellent Kingfisher lagers. I was sure that drinking without having a smoke would be terribly challenging, but you know what? I'm enjoying the wonderful taste of great beer and it's just not that tough.

Done being snooty, Mr Analogy?

Come on, guys. He's posting after only three weeks, not years or decades. He's obviously looking for positive reinforcement to aid in abstaining from smoking. In my experience, when people do that, they're right on the verge of picking it up again. He's looking for social support and encouragement.

It is tough to quit. I had tried a few times and failed. I came up with a decent way of quitting and it worked for me. I've posted it here before. I'll try and dig it up.

IMO, a good lager tastes better when you don't have the taste of smoke in yo mouth. Also, as it gets warmer, I don't know how smokers tolerate it. It makes me cringe a little seeing someone suck in hot smoke on a 30 degree day.

Tomorrow will be eight weeks for me, overall it has been much easier than I ever imagined it would be. Even had a trip to Vegas this past weekend and sat in the casino drinking with smokers all around and didn't slip once.

Sat will be my eighth week. 0 cigs. so far good although I wish the urge would just go away and leave me the fuck alone sometimes. Every time I want one bad I have to keep reminding myself that the one is total fail, I know this to be true and stay away. One for me will mean pack/day by the end of the week, fuck that I went through "hell week" once and don't want to do that again! Good job, the pressure of gambling AND second-hand smoke and you didn't light up, bravo!, I'm not ready to try anything like that yet!.

Thanks Old's, It's getting pricey to smoke anyway, FL just added $1 per pack tax on top of the Obama's $.80 earlier this year. I tallied up the cost for myself and wife @ 1 pk/day, $275/month...yikes!.

god damn!

my brother rolled his own for a while, said he smoked less when he did that, and that it was cheaper. he works in a restaurant though, so while he prefers to smoke a pipe over anything else, he either rolls or buys cheap cigs for work breaks since he doesnt have time for a pipe.

Thanks to all for the encouragement, as far as rolling your own the Obama folks pretty much wiped out that option as well, 1lb was going for $16-17 but got jacked to $39-40. Wife's problem with occluded artery in leg was main reason we both quit. I was watching one of the shows that helps analyze stocks, (I forget which one), they made Phillip-Morris a "buy" recommendation, the commentator replied " their customers use the product until they DIE from using the product, now THAT"S brand loyalty!!!"...

I was just going to ask if your wife quit as well. That's great! Good luck to both of you. I have a coworker who tries to quit smoking 3-4 times per year (for the last 5 years), but her husband keeps smoking. So she lacks the support of her husband plus sees him smoking all the time, so it's been a losing battle for her.

Awesome Job OP! Keep up the good work and don't let your cravings get the best of you. It's not worth it.
I quit smoking 16 days ago (but whose counting, right). It is definitely hard, but I feel that it gets a little easier everyday. I think what was the best for me was getting a nasty case of bronchitis 5 days after I quit. That definitely deterred me from lighting up.

Yeah, bronchitis used to get me 3-4 times a year, hopefully that will improve now that I'm not smoking..
