So as much as I just want to drop everything and walk out the door with the satisfaction of knowing how much it will screw things up, I've decided a 2 week notice is in order. But really if the 2 week rule truly isnt required I'm out the door right now. I've been nothing less than a golden boy here, now I'm extremely bitter towards LAZY upper management.

Do I inform HR about this, tell them in 2 weeks I plan to quit? In all honesty I'm worried that they will try to fire me in the mean time out of spite, I am naturally this paranoid though. This will pretty much come out of the blue, were understaffed as-is and things are just run poorly out of my supervision, I've had enough. Also I'am writing this from work, heh.

Just tell your boss. HR will hear about it one way or another but your primary contact for this should be your boss / manager.

Good luck dude.

Where do you work and what do you do?

Put in your 2 weeks notice, in writing. A lot of times they will tell you to leave but still pay for the 2 weeks. If they tell you to leave and don;t pay for the last 2 weeks then file for unemployment.

I'm an emergency dispatcher

So what does a typical 2 week notice letter look like, template anyone? I want to keep this place as a good reference.

"I really enjoyed my time here but am leaving to pursue alternate career opportunities. I feel very fortunate to have been a member of the team here for (duration). Seacrest, out!"

It doesn't really matter what it says too much. Just make sure that you state that you are officially giving your two weeks notice and the date that will be your last day.

Your notice should be short and to the point. Keep it FACTUAL and leave emotion OUT OF IT. Remember: anything you write can be used and held against you later on... for instance, during a future reference check.

DATE

To: Asshole boss who's been making my life miserable

Subject: I am teh quit

Body: See subject. This is my two weeks notice. Last day is 2/35/2007. I don't remember how many days are in February but since I'm quitting it's not really my problem.

lol. If you don't plan on using the bridges you've 'built', this will work perfectly.
