Quitting Smoking

Not a smoker, but I remember the story my science teacher in middle school told us of how he quit, and thought it was interesting. He went on a two week backpacking trip with his buddies (who also smoked and wanted to quit), and only brought enough cigarettes for the first three days. That way, if they wanted to get a smoke, they would have to hike at least three days to get it. He said they got close to killing each other a few times, but the cravings were gone by the end of the trip, and he found smoke repulsive after about a year.

chantix worked wonders for me took about 1 week then I was done after 7 years of smoking. I also hated it but it's been 3 years and I don't miss it one bit.

havent touched a cigarette since the night i posted this thread.

i read that book, the allen carr one, and ripped my cigarettes in half about halfway through. initially there were no cravings....then they came back really bad, and now they're finally gone again.

How's today going?

I need to quit.

It's gross. It's unpleasant. It smells. It killed my taste buds. It's expensive.

I'm young, so there's hope lol.

How did you guys quit? I've tried...but the headaches from quitting suck and everytime I go more than a few hours, the cravings and the headaches are absolutely terrible. Last week, I made it 24 hours without smoking...but I got really pissed off and stressed about something, and had to smoke. Total fail.

Any help?

E-ciggies.. but then you get hooked on e-ciggies.

But its easier to quit a e-ciggy then it is to quit a real cig.


Personally ive tried to quit many many times... something in life will always come up, and make you lite another one unless you have one hell of a strong will.

But u might want to try e-ciggs to help you smoke real cigs less, then try to quit to e-cigs.. and then from there quit.

The pads dont work very well, it gives me more of a high feeling then smoking did, and not to mention it gave me a rash sometimes.

Nicotine gum sucks... lol... its nasty... but if u want to try, spearmint is probably the best flavor.

Nicorette, Zyban, the patch, and cold turkey - none worked for me.

I'm at two years three months without a cig since I discovered the miracle cure known as Chantix.

I smoked for 20 years and, thanks to Chantix, I'll be smoke-free for 2 years next month. The 2-month supply of Chantix that it took to seal the deal was well worth the $200 I spent on it.

It's great to be able to really taste food again.

Saturday will be 4 weeks for me using Nicorette mini-lozenges.
First time using them.
Tried the regular lozenges before, mini's are much better!
Not easy, but bearable.
This was not so much a choice, though I really did want to quit, but a given.
I have Emphysema.
Smoked for 40 years, up to 4 packs/day at times.

u know that reminds of me wellbutrin.

And i remember my doctor telling me to get it as wellbutrin instead of getting it as Zyban, because wellbutrin is covered by most insurances.

Dude... wellbutrin.. felt like you were on E down the entire day, the body tingles.. and mellowed out trait... didnt like it at all.
I still think i have the entire bottle in a cabnet somewhere.
