QX6850 Temperature

Hi guys I have a QX6850 with an AC7 cooler on it. I recently changed motherboards and everything is working fine so far but I am concerned about the temperature of the CPU.

I noticed that the CPU idles at about 42-46C and when playing for example Crysis it spikes up to 62-63C.

Should I be concerned and maybe go back in and redo the thermal paste or am I ok? This is running the CPU at stock right now, I do intend to begin overclocking soon but I want to make sure that I am not already doing something wrong here.

Well since your running stock, I would go ahead and remove your HS and check what your TIM looks like. Seems a bit high at load for stock levels.
I would test it with OCCT or prime to get max load temps to make sure as gaming doesn't really give you true results.

Which motherboard, which chipset, and which BIOS revision?

i have a AC7 on my Q6600 at default speed and get in the low 30's idle temps. what is the room temperature where the computer is? that plays a factor also. did you reapply more paste to the chip when you installed the new motherboard?

Well from what i can tell you i have the same chip and I'm on water and i idle at about 41 and under full stress load at about 49 to 50. max temp rating for our chip is 65. so being at 62 to 63 is pretty high but these chips do run a bit hotter due to the 65n chip.

I've got one of those initial batch of QX6700 (B3 stepping, Nov 2006) and indeed these suckers haev rather high idle temps.

In my case my QX6700 is lapped, cooled by a lapped Tuniq120, and C1E/EIST are enabled. My idle temps are 35-38C. Load temps are in the low 60's. This is at stock everything (no overclocking of anything).

Owning this B3 quad as well as some Q6600 G0's I can't stress how impressive the G0 stepping was for these Kentsfield quads in terms of power consumption and temps.

That's a bit warm for stock, but i'm not surprised.

My Q6700 was about 10+C cooler idle & load than my current QX6850, & i reseated the heatsink again myself to be sure, but as i suspected that wasn't it.

It's just a hell of a lot hotter chip regardless.
