From ABCNews:

Columbus police department spokeswoman Sherry Mercurio identified three of the victims of Wednesday's shooting as Abbott, guitarist with the heavy metal rock band Damageplan, and two other men, Nathan Bray and Erin Halk.

So apparently Vinnie Paul was shot, but is alive. At least that's what Fort Worth Star Telegram said.

Well if you're in the DFW area, head over to The Clubhouse, which is partly owned by Vinnie. Show your support by stuffing a dollar in a girls g-string. I'm going to go after work.

Wow. I'm not the biggest Pantera fan in the world, but DD was an absolutely ferocious guitarist. It's sad that one man felt his opinion on the matter trumped all others and that it was somehow his right to take this music away from all of us.

Damnit! This is the only dead musician that I'm truly saddened about. My formative middle school years were spent listening to Pantera until the tapes wore out. Dimebag was a great, great guitarist, both rythmn and lead. This sucks!

Wow, unbelievable... In recent years I've become a huge Pantera fan, knowing the work he's done, it really sucks to know he died, especially in such a senseless way...

Columbus police identified the suspect as Nathan Gale, 25, of nearby Marysville but said they had no information about a motive or possible connection to the band.

 I've not been to the Clubhouse yet, but I might make a special trip out there real soon out of respect.

According to the latest from the local Dallas radio stations, those that were killed were Dimebag, 2 audience members, the shooter, and possibly one of Damageplans' security guys, who was a local guy here and was frequently on the radio (when 97.1 - The Eagle was still around.) Still unconfirmed and unreleased, possibly because they haven't been able to contact his family.

Sux..

And yes, there are also rumors that the shooter was screaming at Dimebag and blaming him for Pantera's breakup.

Alrosa is not a bad place to see a band you like play. It's the way rock and roll ought to be seen.

Thank goodness for the Columbus police or this story could be a lot worse.

R.I.P. Dimebag.

He was from my hometown, lived about 5 minutes away from my house.

Pantera has been around for quite some time now. I listened to Cowboys From Hell/Vulgar Display/Far Beyond Driven until I had every solo memorized. DAMN. :brokenheart:

Honestly, I always figured Darrell would OD and go that way, ala Layne Staley, etc. What a way to go. I'm very interested to find out who the gunman was.

Probably an Ex-Pantera fan pissed off that they joined another group.

Ausm

Which makes no sense 'cause Phil is the one who left the group (to join Super Joint Ritual full time) and publicly<sp?> announced that Pantera broke up w/o even talking w/DD and Vinnie.

I don't think I have ever heard one song from Pantera but nonetheless having a mentally unstable fan storm on stage and shoot innocent victims is tragedy enough to mourn their passsing. It's one thing to OD and another entirely when a lunatic is out for blood like this case and the John Lennon incident.

Damn this sucks.

Dimebag was one of my favorite guitarists. He just had the sweetest sound.

Had good times listening to Pantera in my high school days.

RIP Dimebag

I'm pretty pissed off that the shooter died. I know that the police had to shoot him, but I wanted that son of a b!tch to live and hopefully suffer for the rest of his life. He destroyed a huge influence for many people. No one will ever replace Dime...

Part of me, the realist part, is glad that the police officer shot the guy dead. Else it would be some long drawn out BS court case and the guy will claim insanity or that his daddy beat him too much when he was a kid or some other crap.

However another part of me, the likes to live in a fantasy world part, wished that the guy would have survived and would have been let loose down here in DFW, perhaps Deep Ellum, and we in society could punish him. By punish, of course, I mean beat and bludgeon him until he was a pulp.
