I think it sucked

I've played or attended hundreds of shows at the ARV over the last 15 years and let me say that it was one of the best metal clubs in the midwest! I now live in California, but I miss the Alrosa Villa dearly - that place was like home to me at one point in my music career - but it's sad that an event like this not only took some very cool people from this planet, but will probably shut the club down forever... That club did a lot for local music too, so that could have been any one of us on stage...

And CNN spelled the bouncer's name wrong who died. It was "Aaron" not "Erin". Minor detail, I know, but worth getting the dudes name right at least in memory of what he did...

My wife told me about this this morning and I was like What?

"Damageplan had just begun its first song at Alrosa Villa club when the man shot Abbott five or six times at point-blank range"

Wow some people are really pathetic.

RIP DD

I'm listening to "By Demons Be Driven" right now, and I would like to recommend to all of you just coming in here to offer condolences that haven't heard Pantera, just listen to that song to understand what an incredible guitarist he was. It doesn't exactly display his talents like some of their other songs, but it shows how good he sounded, and it's probably the easiest for a non-Pantera fan to digest outside of "Cemetary Gates."

Official Release from Atlantic Records

As we are sure you all have heard by now, our band Damageplan suffered a horrible tragedy last night at their show in Columbus. Guitarist Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed, as was their head of security, Mayhem (Jeff Thompson), and two fans. Chris Paluska from the band's management company is in critical but stable condition, and the band's drum tech, Cat (John Brooks), is expected to be released from the hospital tomorrow.

We hope that each of you will take a moment to reflect on the band and their music, and the tremendous loss which this is to the music community.

Following is the statement which we issued to the media this afternoon.

Statement from Atlantic Records

December 9, 2004

We are shocked and saddened by last night's horrible and senseless shootings. This is a tragic day for the music community, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families, and the surviving members of Damageplan and their crew. Dimebag Darrell was an exceptional musician and an extraordinary person. Along with his brother and bandmate, Vinnie Paul, he was a member of the Elektra/Atlantic family for the past 14 years, and he will be deeply missed. The bravery displayed by Damageplan, their crew, their fans, and the local police will never be forgotten.

Sorry to keep coming back to this thread, but I'm completely down about Dime getting killed. I am honestly very sad right now. Maybe some of you won't understand, I mean, he's just a guy in a band, right? But he was so much more than that to a lot of people, including me. I grew up listening to Pantera. It was something that you thrashed to when you felt good, something that let out the anger when you were pissed off, and something that brought you up when you were down.

Anyway, I'm still in shock, just feeling really sh!tty. Pay no attention to the man behind the post.

I never really listened to Pantera much, but the death of any musician makes me extremely sad. It is painful to hear that another life in the music industry is taken away from us, a life that brought good times to many. Rest in peace.

For some reason that reminds me of the scene in Full Metal Jacket where the drill instructor is talking about how Charles Whitman and Lee Harvey Oswald learned to shoot in the Marines...
