That is VERY disappointing to see.
After 4 months, they now release a GPU that is roughly at the same performance as the GTX 780? Maybe +5% when all games are accounted for.
What the hell? Where is the "Titan slayer"?
It's actually roughly the same performance as Titan, clearly faster than a 780. Look at it this way, maybe now you can afford the level of performance provided by Titan :sneaky:
I'm sure a lot of people are hoping just that. A card for $600 that performs like the $1000 one available now. Never mind it looks like at resolutions appropriate for this card it is faster than Titan. Plus it will most likely wind up taking Battlefield 4, which is the most important benchmark right now.
I think this will be a good launch for AMD for once since 5870. They're about to drop a gutpunch on nvidia like the GTX 680 was to the 7970; a 25% smaller die, faster, performance lead in the game of the day - Battlefield 4 this time rather than 3 and cheaper. If they price it well it is going to look really good in reviews.
I also think the plain R9 290 is going to be the sleeping giant. Cheaper than the R9 290X, maybe overclocking to close to the same performance - similar to what we say with 7950/7970, giving you better than 780 performance and near Titan numbers. Aftermarket 290s will probably be a very hot seller.
