Well... I played it all day yesterday along with a bunch of my friends so you're mistaken.

It was even listed on the BF4 official site as being released on the 29th.

are on lagacy mode , running it up to 11.0 features...

I didn't look through the entire thread and the OP hasn't been updated. Are there any R9 290 (non X) reviews and overclock numbers floating around? If it OCs better than the 290x, I might snag 2 of those instead.

There are some numberson OCN as a guy got shipped a 290 instead of a 290X lol......basically calls are coming for him to bench it before sending it back for 290X OCUK freaked out a little cause it wasn't originally said it wasn't them LOL

HFR used a 780 stuck at 980MHz in their charts
under the denomination "780 uber"....

They used an aftermarket cooled 780 that doesn't throttle. It was able to maintain it's boost frequencies and not cut back because the reference throttles.

If you notice, at 1080 the 290X is 6% faster, 1440 is 9% and 4K is 15% faster than the aftermarket 780. Titan is slower than both. Quite a ripoff when their own $650 card with a better cooler beats the $1000 flagship. That Uber Titan cooler isn't worth it.

Well, My R9 290x is on it's way back to Newegg. So much for that.


I took my $160 Powercolor HD 7950 out of the box. I can't believe I might have hit the silicon lottery with this. 78.1% ASIC and NO coil whine!! This is on a boost edition card too

I have owned 4 HD 7950s and this is by far the quietest and coolest I have owned. Who would have known???

3DMark 11 Performance - 41,156 GPU score

3DMark 11 Extreme - 14,473 GPU score

Firestrike Extreme - 17,247 GPU score


Single @1200/1500

Firestrike Extreme - 5,943 GPU score


Some scores from the guy that was accidentally sent a 290 instead of the 290X he ordered. Card was run at 1003/1250 (default is 947/1250)

Firestrike Extreme - 4,950 GPU score

Firestrike Performance - 10,858 GPU score

The result indicates that the 290 is one hell of a card out of the box !

290 @ stock (947/1250) Heaven 4.0 preset extreme + 1920x1080

290 @ 1003/1250) Heaven 4.0 preset extreme + 1920x1080

just to say i've hit the 1100mhz mark with my 290 947mhz

ventilation @ 55% for 62?c ( abit noisy but can bring it down as i am only getting 62? )

Has Ati's driver compatability with older (or even slightly older) games improved?

When I was running three 7970s I had to wait forever, if ever, for them to fix issues with existing games. At the time it seems as if they were too focused on inflating benchmark scores and attempting to fix the myriad of issues that they drop the ball on when a new game was released.

While I agree AMD's software and driver support for some games are lacking in quality, I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it junk. Nvidia is definitely ahead of them by a large margin though.

Maybe all that software experience they are getting developing Mantle will translate to better Catalyst software. >_>
