all I have to say the last few posts re high res don't matter is base on what 5 year old console ports used in the benches .
come ps4-xbone for my money I think 4 k high res. is a good indication of a cards horse power that might be useful in the next gen of ports or maybe not depending on the port gods.
Yeah, I still don't care about 4K though :/ Unless that somehow directly translates to lower resolutions, which I doubt.
Possible Crossfire performance leaked out. If true, that scaling is disgusting in its efficiency.
PS4/Xbone won't even run EVERY game at 1080p and NO games will run at a higher resolution than 1080p. I'm confused as to what you're saying though you might want to rephrase it with complete sentences, punctuation, etc.
one to many pops maybe
just trying to point out if I were to update my cards today for the next Ps4-Xbox1 game engines , benches showing games base off really old game engines with pc settings tact on is the best we have today ,
If the newer game engines ported to pc's come out the box more demanding on the gpu's those 4k benches could show how a gpu deals with a much greater work load just to run at 1440p.
I just see 4k res. as another stress tester for gpu's not the res. I'll be running for a long time.

some ps2 vs ps3 vs ps4

If accurate, these results mirror what many of us expected to see. The R290X trades blows with the Titan and 780 at 1080 and leads both of them the majority of the time at ultra-high res. As 5760x1080 is 6.3 megapixel and 4K resolution (3840x2160) is 8.3 megapixels, I expect the R290X will increase its lead over the 780 and Titan at 4K.
It will be interesting to discover what resolution/graphics level/game the R290X is on roughly equal footing with the 780 and the Titan.
Update on my MSI 280x - after about a week's use, I've noticed that the GPU is emitting some coil whine that I can hear through my speakers. I checked some newegg reviews and it sounds like others are experiencing the same thing.
Might just do a return and pick up the Asus card when it's back in stock....or get a 290x!
Yeahhhh. Get rid of that stupid thing. A lot of 7970s had this issue and MSI apparently didn't take the time to ensure it was fixed - I have not heard of anyone experiencing the same with the Asus 280X DC II card. It should be much better all-around.

If it is coming through your speakers, check the routing of any internal audio cables.
For me it was the line going to the front panel for the headphones. It would pick up noise from the fan and then output it through the speakers.
However, if it is actual coil whine, there is two things you can do.
1: Limit your FPS to ~120 or so. It typically happens when you get into the hundreds of FPS.
2: Place some electronics safe epoxy on the coils, this will stop them from whining and is very common practice.

So I would say we'll see the NDA lift this Thursday, October 24.
VC reports that the 290x NDA comes off on the 24th @ 12:01 - not very surprising. What I find boggling is that the NDA for the R9 290 won't be lifted until the 31st??
It seems to be a normal MO from AMD recently - 5870->5850 one weak later. 7970->7950 one weak later.
Should put the FUD to rest.AMD Radeon R9 290X Video Card Review - AMD is launching the Radeon R9 290X today. The R9 290X represents AMD's fastest single-GPU video card ever produced. It is priced to be less expensive than the GeForce GTX 780, but packs a punch on the level of GTX TITAN. We look at performance, the two BIOS mode options, and even some 4K gaming.
This review will be published at 11:01PM CST tonight.
Hopefully they include the new smoothness per watt per transistor per mm^2 metric.
