It really seems like you're stalking the guy or something.

Personally, I didn't find anything particularly wrong with what he said. The cooler sucks on the 290X. AMD could have gone all out and made a grand slam product but the cooler holds it back. Does anyone disagree with this? I sure don't. The hardware is awesome, the performance is outstanding, the price is great. The cooler sucks. So that drags the "total balance" of the product down - some people don't care about that, and I still think the 290X is a great card for the price. And it has brought NV price cuts and a game bundle, which is awesome in it's own respect.

The bottom line is that the cooler on the 290X sucks. I can't disagree with him. You can chill out on stalking the guy now, because I don't think anyone on this forum is interested in it.

And Nvidia charged $100 more for the 780GTX and $450 more for Titan, cards the 290X competes with and is often faster. It beats the 780 at quiet fan speeds while costing less money. Nvidia didn't make a perfect card either... the price performance ratio was pretty lacking, but the cooler was better.

So many posters keep harping on the cooler and making these crazy posts because the heatsink doesn't keep the GPU cool enough to keep the clocks up high enough to beat Titan, which AMD never said they were aiming for.

All this faux outrage about a heatsink on a reference card is kind of funny.

Card is great. Hate the cooler and the engineers who put it there.

I still don't understand why you are hating on a card (or an aspect of it) that you have no intention of buying, ever. I questioned you previously along the same lines but you never responded. So why the anger against something you will never use or own? Doesn't make sense.

And hating the engineers, that's a whole other level of, don't know what that is all about.

So nvidia officially is dropping the 780 to $499 and giving away 3 free games!!!!!!

I guess AMD finally got their attention. Thats awesome, they absolutely must be doing something right. 10 million kudos to AMD

But a $500 780 is a great deal. I mean its extremely attractive at that price. Honestly did not expect such a steep drop.........

This brings me to my final conclusion.
Sadly, some die hard fans may not like to hear this but

The 780ti is launching at $690
Considering the new price of a bargain $500 for the original 780.............I will take this as the first indication that the 780ti will be a monstrous beast. It will have to be marginally faster than both titan and the 290x. On a happy note, I think the titan has finally sunk!!!!!!!!

And even better, we dont have to wait very long to find out. I mean, the 780ti is literally just around the corner. 28nm has really turned sooooo exciting. I mean, i am not believing this. There is so much moving so fast, its making me cry tears of joy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a geeks wet dream come true times 900 9 thousands

Wrong thread?

Or just maybe they are preparing their product line for the 780ti...

Or they know the performance of the 290 which will probably beat the 780 for $450ish.

Thankfully there is a little bit of competition, I wouldn't mind a lot more.

And I'm not clear on why you should care if I hate them or love them. Its love-hate actually. They did awesome on the GPU.

And indeed I was intending to buy a 290x. I even said this in a few threads leading up to and including the launch.
You can put your axe away now. You know, the one you've been grinding?

Good news is cards with custom coolers are inbound so your angst was not necessary unless you had to have a 290x right away.
You've just made It abundantly clear that you have no clue why I was upset about the 290x.
I've made it clear, so its kind of up to you to go back through he thread and re-read a little.
Then again you might not care to know.
I'm indifferent.
And I will purchase a 290x when models with much better coolers emerge. I'm due for a high end AMD card. I skipped too many gens. Last one was a 5870.

I predicted this move by NVIDIA and that AMD will respond with custom cooler 290X models at $500 or less to combat it. The GPU price wars are on again and we all win. In two or three months there won't be a bad choice at any price point. NVIDIA and AMD both will have killer cards for much more reasonable prices than we've seen in a long time (excluding the massive price cuts to reduce inventory on the 7000 series).

You're bothered by the $6 to ship a $579.99 product?

I'm surprised nobody said anything about the 9 cents I overstated.

My original comment was pointing out that you chose to include shipping when you stated the cost of the R9 290X, while ignoring that most 780s on Newegg have shipping costs too. I don't think anyone here cares very much about shipping costs, I was just pointing out your embarrassingly obvious effort to downplay the cost difference between the cards.

I will just wait for custom coolers. After my 5970 I can't stand the AMD stock cooler noise and this is why I have a 7970 dual-X.

They didn't yesterday, I was looking at the bottom average, there was actually a R290X cheaper but it was one of many that were not.

Whereas many of the 780s were $650 flat with free shipping (none of the 290X had free shipping), and now today are as low as $500 with $6 shipping.

(Also one cheaper)

Nothing embarrassingly obvious except your hilarious need to nitpick stupid things because you can't counter the intended context.

AMD is going to have to drop the R290X to $499, and custom models around $519 ish to remain competitive versus the lower priced 780, so its a good move by NV.

The 780ti if rumored to be an unlocked Titan, should still be viable at $599.

The interesting one is how the R290 slots in price/perf. Its gonna be a good time to upgrade soon! (No, I have no faith 20nm GPUs are coming anytime soon, and when they do come, it wont be cheap).

The 780ti is going to be 699.99$, this was already confirmed at multiple sources. But I do agree that the 290X should be 499$ maximum.

No it doesn't use xdma.
Thats just for 290 & 290X.

Or maybe you could have given him a proper answer instead of your snobbish reply.
sorry its silly to ask question like that when all he has to do is look at the card which takes only a few seconds.

That doesn't at all justify your bad attitude. Next time, just shut up and don't bother posting.

Anyone know of a GPU-Z that properly reads the 290X? 0.73 can't read the shaders, VRAM, Temps or hardly anything besides the name.

Nope not yet and seems to ramp up the 290X also to full bore so it doesn't idle; people noticed it on the OC forums 290X sub; most seem very happy about their card.

I would be very surprised if GTX780 Titan(ium) isn't quite a lot faster than R9 290X.
At a $650 ish price point what would be the point?
Granted it gives Halo status even if its a frame or two faster but for that sort of money I imagine at least a 15-20% "no doubt about it" performance lead over the R9X would be needed to justify the price.

Afterburner works for temps just fine for me. But as has been reported, GPU-Z is currently worthless, and also can keep the card at 100% usage.
