Guys, heres the verdict. This card is junk. Its causing boot loops on my Z87 UD4H. Fan RATTLES at 40% (sounds like a bearing is bad) I also noticed that not much air is dispelling out the back of the card at high speed. All I can think is this card is a design train wreck on a cooling perspective.

I don't think I am keeping it. I have a BNIB HD 7950 ready to go in and RMAing this thing.

Gtx 780? You know it's inevitable. :biggrin:

The 290 arch walks all over the 110 for performance.
Get over it.
You post one kudos to amd for the cards performance and then you post pages after pages of half bitter remarks while the same time referring to the kudos to amd.

Just to get this straight, you are keeping track of my positive and negative comments towards AMD products? Why? What is it you stand to gain by doing so when all it does is make you seem petty and "stalkish"?

You care too much what I think of AMD, when you shouldn't care at all. I think we both know who needs to "get over it".

OT I heard the HOF 780 is consistently faster than the Titan so I'm skeptical the 290x consistently beats it. I'll have to look at some more reviews.

HFR used a 780 stuck at 980MHz in their charts
under the denomination "780 uber"....

It does; until the dust settles - buying anything 290x or 780 right at this moment unless you can find a super cheap deal......it would be foolish.

We know the 290 that isn't out yet can be flashed with the 290X bios; we know it can oc to 290X levels and possibly more and it will beat the HOF at 1310 at 1200ish speeds....

Either card is damn fast; and price drops are a good thing for all of us. As I've said I'm waiting on 290 to come out to decide what prices fall out. Long as they keep dropping we the customers *not fanboys* win

will we have a fastest card overall? I don't know but we could have a scene where 780ti is faster at lower res say 1080p while 290X is faster that the top end res 1440p; multi moniter and above.

Funny part is; if you get either 780 or 290X you are getting one hell of a card either way.....290X is turner very much into a tuners and tweakers card which is right up my ally

early drivers most likely and they only show 1080p and nothing higher for multiplayer....makes me wonder why. can't find which drivers or how the rig is set up for testing......but we'll see improvements for sure

Both are using latest ones -13.11 beta v7 & 331.65 WHQL. So i would say equal playing field.

interesting check the beta bf4 on OCN - those that have 290 are getting higher than that; does seem to be a bug in the drivers for AMD as there was a tweet about new driver fix coming today for BF4...

Like I said those numbers seem off; or they are running the card in quiet mode and getting throttling *which is possible*....and very much so.

If you look at the single player mode; you see 290X (uber) ruling the charts but for some reason in multiplayer its not ran in uber mode which honestly makes no sense why they did it that way....

Here I was planning on getting the R9-280X or 770 for my new rig and hoping I could run BF4 Ultra at 1080P. This benchmarks demolish both cards.

I'd tend to agree with that, but same performance discrepancy is noticeable between 770 & 280x with no uber mode influence to skew the result.

There be game updates and driver updates to level out the performance. Turn up the resolution scale to 200% (2XSSAA)- this would bring any single GPU to it's knees @ 1080P

Nope. I don't like the cheapness of the 290X reference cooler. It was designed by the marketing team.
