15,000 3dmarks? Is that a lot?

Seriously though, it sounds pretty ground breaking...I just hope they don't fvck it up with POS drivers.

15,000 3d marks?! DUDE

This is beginning to remind me of the old 3D Mark 2000 (or something) scores...

Looks good, although, will there be real world performance benefits in current games from anything but the 256-bit bus(which the Inquirer didnt even mention)?

External power
WTF? Am I out of the loop or are they going the 3dfx way?

nevermind, answered it myself...
the card will have external power connector since it will need more power than AGP 2.0 can provide. We learned that AGP 2.0 can deliver 40 watts so this card will therefore need more than that.
:Q over 40w? that bastage is gonna be hot.

These specs sound cool. But ATI is well known for its driver issues and now there's that external power thing... I expect to see a huge heatsink with a loud fan as well. Noise, heat and power issues? Ha-ha, whatever.

I might suggest you comment these are rumoured pre-release specifications, rather then stating definitively that this is what we most definitely will see come Wednesday.

But ATI is well known for its driver issues""

That was a LONG time ago. Their drivers kick butt these days.

~15,000 3DMarks

What was the speed of the CPU that it was running with?? I'm getting only 8144 with an 8500LE and a 1900XP. I want to know the specs of the rig it ran on to get 15,000.

over @ rage3d..

This is straight from the source: The R300 is easily capable of 300MHz+. In fact, some samples are running at 325MHz without any problems. The A11 revision had a bug in the memory interface that seriously hindered its operating frequency.

The AIW will most definitely run at the same speed as the standard card. The card should be available near the end of August, while the AIW will arrive in September sometime.

Im sure revision A12 will be @ 350 Mhz

Inside sources tell me that it will run at 400mhz core and that it will have it's own external AC power source .. it will come with a alpha 8045 mounted on it stock.

Mmmm, 8 rendering pipes. It should definitely be quite fast assuming there is memory bandwidth to back it up of course. Speaking of which, there's no mention of the memory specs

How does that compare with the Geforce 4 Ti 4200 4400 4600?
It should be much faster than all of those cards.

A12 ? Does anyone know how ATI denotes new steppings/revisions? By most companies, this would mean they have had 12 mask changes. Can that be right?

And if it truly does generate 40W then I'm going to pass on it no matter how great it is and no matter what the price is. I'm kinda shocked at how hot my computer room gets in the evening. The AC in our house can't keep up with what I have. 40W for a high-end consumer video card. Makes me wonder where we are headed in the future... everything is only going to get hotter.

External power eh...

Hmmm...maybe we should all invest in slot fans to keep the temperature down?

So we can continue on our overcloking journies

A12. Sheesh. Generally when NVIDIA releases a new GPU. it is revision A3 or A5 or some other low number. ATI must have really had a lot of hardware bugs to be on A12 before the product launch.
