Let's not forget here that nVidia has a new card coming out soon, so this is comparing two different generations (like saying WOW, a GF4 totally insanely destroyed this Radeon 7500) :Q
And soon after NVIDIA releases NV30, Ati will release the .13 micron refresh of R300. Point is that right now, R300 is faster. We can and should compare Ati's fastest to NVIDIA's fastest, and right now, GF4Ti4600 is it. It's not Ati's fault that NVIDIA is releasing NV30 so late. or should ati say "Here is our new product. But please, do not compare it to our competitors best product right now. You must wait untill they release their next products several months from now". Now, that's just stupid, don't you agree? Comparing different products should NOT be about which "generation" they are, they should be about what is available at that moment. R7500 is not the fastest thing Ati has, so it IS pretty pointless to compare it to GF4 (the best NVIDIA has). R300 is the best Ati has and it costs about as much as GF4 does, so comparing those IS valid.
hell, that would be a perfect strategy. Go on a 10 year product-cycle. In few years time, when your product is sub-standard, you could just say "Oh, you can't compare our product to our competitors product. Our answer to their product gets released 5 years from now". When you release a new product, you compare it to the competitors that are awailable at that moment. And right now, that means that R300 gets compared to GF4.
