r300 to be called radeon 9700

The R300 will be called Radeon 9700, where the 9 stands for DirectX 9 support and the 700 could be memory speed, we imagine, or maybe 9700 simply sounds better than 4600, which Nvidia uses for their Geforce 4.

Radeon 10000 will be the label for the next R300, which will be introduced as soon as November and which will be produced using 0.13 micron technology. And it?s likely be faster as well.

Adul just curious are you ok where you live? I know they have that horrible fire out there but its under control a lot more thank goodness!
Did you see all the smoke from it where you are at or no? Thats one horrible fire for sure I can not believe why that guy started it. Such a terrible thing to do. I am asking because i am worried.

ia m ok and yes it is quiet a fire. I was able to see smoke in the east, but it was pretty dispearsed.

Adul glad you are ok. I am wishing and hoping for the best for the people in your state with that fire. It destoryed a lot of homes to me i think. Even the 400 something homes it destoryed is like 400 people and famlies that have to have thier home rebuilded. I am hoping the best for them.

more likely the R300 will be called the Radeon 9500 and they'll have two professional level cards based on it, the FireGL 9700 and the FireGL9800.. at least that's how it is with the R200 series. as for RV250, I haven't a clue what they'll call it, but it should be 8xxx since it's a DX8 chip. don't believe the stuff inquirer says, most of the time it is wrong, which is why I ignore all links to their page.

bjc112 wow. How hot is it up there? How is the humidity and dewpoint? We are like 89 to 95 with a humidity of 76% and dewpoint of like 66 +

I think your confusing the R300 with the NV30... the R300 has always been rumored to continue the Radeon name, and ATi's roadmaps have referenced it has Radeon. The NV30 on the otherhand is expected to part with the GeForce brand name.

As for Inquirer's opinion of the R300 naming.... I've begun to completely ignore it.
In the last 2 months alone they've released editorials claiming it to be named Radeon 10500, 10000, 9800, 9700, 9500, 9000, 8900, 8700.
They've pretty much chosen every viable number between 8700-10500 so I'm pretty much convinced they havent got the faintest idea what it will be called.

Personally, I'm betting it'll be Radeon 9XXX to continue the current scheme of basing the first number of the DX8 hardware supported revision.
As for the XXX, I'l hazard a guess it may be 500... but that's just that- a guess based of the naming used for the 8500/7500.
