if there were no MIR hanky panky to muddy the waters as with every price you quote.
What do you mean?
if there were no MIR hanky panky to muddy the waters as with every price you quote.
even if GTX960 4GB drops to $160, it's still overpriced.
That would be an utterly ridiculous and totally subjective assessment. I'd snap up one in a hot minute if there were no MIR hanky panky to muddy the waters as with every price you quote.
I got the single-fan mini evga 4gb 960 for my htpc for $199.
Yeah, no. If the 960 dropped to $160 USD ($207.16 CAD) I too would snatch it up ASAP. Thats REALLY cheap for 5-10 fps difference.
Although I agree with most of what RS says, I was able to get an EVGA SSC 960 from NCIX in Canada for $205 *after* 13% taxes. It took a bit of work but was really easy in the end.
When the 950's were first introduced they cleared out the 960's with free shipping, rebates, and free MGSV codes which sold for an easy 40 bucks. Sure you may have trouble finding the same deal right now but if Nvidia is truly discontinuing the 2GB 960's they will likely be on sale very soon with incentives to clear out inventory.
All that being said I do use mine in a HTPC setting to keep everything cool and quiet in a small ITX case. It's an excellent card and I haven't regretted the purchase or ran into a game it couldn't run at decent settings.
Now for a main gaming rig or dedicated PC you probably shouldn't be looking at anything less than a 970 or 290 IMO. The 380 / 285 / 280X just isn't fast enough if you want something that will last more than a few years and allow max settings.
An after-market 290/390 or 970 are more than 50% faster than a GTX960
and should be, they cost almost double the price. 170$ vs 300$
Except you can grab a R9 290/x 390 for well under $300 right now
has always been a 960 for $170
Powercolor R9 390 was at $235 (after MIR
Why not exactly?
yes the gtx 970 will be fine with almost any 500 watt psu.970 would be okay for my PSU
290= Hot overpowered junk.
for the 290/390 ,You would have to give me the model of your PSU and I wouldnt overclock with these cards on some of the best 500 watt psu's.
Well, I'm happy to say that I purchased an R9 380 4Gb edition from XFX. It should be here within a week or two. I sure hope I will enjoy it as much as so many of you said I would...
