r9 285 out soon

so is anything excited about this gpu? it'll be out in about in a week and i ill be grabbing one of these if its worth it. i been needing to upgrade my amd 6850. the price seems kind of fair. should i invest in this gpu or wait and get my 2nd monitor first? im torn between the two. its either this gpu or a benq 144hz. what are you thoughts on it?

Depends on perf/$ and how much you value the latest GCN feature set. Until there are reviews we don't know for sure about the perf/$, although it's not looking like it's going to move the bar much if at all there. XDMA Crossfire is good, but with only 2gig of VRAM how good is limited. Fully FreeSync capable could be important with Mantle and TrueAudio. Hawaii (R9 290) offers the same thing though and might be better on perf/$. It should be more energy efficient if you are limited by your PSU or just really care about that.

I think we are going to have to wait for reviews to be sure.

If you are gaming on a small 17 or 19" monitor, I'd rather upgrade to a 24" monitor. You won't be hitting 140 fps on that BenQ with a 6850 though so chances are you'll need a new GPU anyway.

Regarding R9 285, if you don't mind a bit more power usage, there are sales on R9 280X cards such as this Diamond R9 280X for $240 that imo are a better deal than the R9 285. Excellent cooler, more VRAM and faster performance for less.
