R9 380 4GB new or used R9 290?

My R9 290 has died so that leaves me waiting for Vega on a HD 6670. I'm going to upgrade so I can at least use 1440p natively for the next few months. So basically I can get a Sapphire Nitro R9 380 new for £138 or I can try and find some R9 290 or 290x on a forum with AIB the same money.

Vega's a long way out. Why not just buy a Fury X and be done with it?

Anyway, of those two options I'd go with the used R9 290.

Because a R9 290 used is about £120 and a Fury is £300. I did buy a Sapphire Nitro Fury but for some reason it didn't work in my system so I returned it. If I was going to buy a Fury for £300 I'd probably say screw it give up on freesync and get a GTX 1070 for £370.

Your 290 might still be under warranty depending on which brand / when you bought it. Check that and see if you get a replacement

A 290 stock will probably beat a 380X OC.

The 380 is a step down from the 290. I'd either go for the used 390 or spend a little more and get a 480.

The 290 has more horsepower than the 380, no doubt. But the RX480 is where it's at right now in AMD land, so if I were you I'd rather start saving up for that bad boy.

An OCed 290(x) is just as fast, if not faster, than a 480; at least for now.

You can pick up a 290 for less than $200 shipped used. A 480 would be more than that, if you can manage to get one.
