R9 380x reviews and Specifications

That is not "one website pricing order". It's more like "one country/market pricing order".

I am aware that US prices are vastly different than in most other places. My post was obviously specific to my local market.

But even in the US, it's hard to consider a $240 R9 380X a great purchase, when you often have R9 290 at that price or GTX 970 for not much more, like this MSI GTX 970 right now for $290 (or $260 after $30 rebate).

The amount of TVs with HDMI 2.0 is huge.... Literally go to Amazon.com or your favorite retailer, pick a 4K HDTV, and search the name of the TV + HDMI 2.0 to see how many inputs it has... some have 1, a lot have more than 1. Unless you're searching for budget prices, you'll find a ton of HDMI 2.0 TVs.

The point is STILL the same. People who want HDMI 2.0 will pick Nvidia.

Well ofc, anyone who had a 7970 that long ago, pretty much has the 380x. Even worse because Tahiti OC like a champion. It's weird that GCN debut on early 28nm clocks the highest while subsequent iterations drop off in overclocking.

7970 @ 1.3Ghz anyone? It's no slouch.

Better overclocker and more compute also

FP64 on 7970/280x is 1/4
FP64 on 380X is 1/16

Hawaii is in the middle of both with 1/8

I should have stated "prices accurate at time of posting", my bad . Price wise though the 380X isn't badly placed, could be lower but what customer doesn't like lower prices...

Is there anything I'm not seeing between the 380 vs the 380X? Friend is asking for a budget conscious build. I recommended the Powercolor 380 for $160 after rebates, but then he changed it to the Powercolor 380X for $230. Going by reviews, I don't see anything special enough to warrant jacking up the price of his build by almost 45% for just ~15% more performance.

Probably this Powercolor card, which is a 4GB 380.

The 380X is definitely not worth the extra money. If he is willing to spend that much, tell him to look at 970s or 390s instead.

Yep, that's the one. We're going through a third party, so see what his response is. He originally picked a 960 4GB believe with rebates it was $210, maybe a little less. But then I saw that Powercolor 380 for $160 and figured that be perfect for his build.

Ya if someone can afford a $280-290 390/970, it's a no brainer over the 380X. However, if someone cannot stretch quite that high, 380X makes 960 its whipping boy, something I said about 280X vs. 960 since the first day 960 launched but almost everyone ignored.

Even HardOCP finally woke up to their senses.

At current US prices, 380X is actually better value than 960 2GB or 4GB models, while a $180 R9 380 4GB is better value than all 3 of these cards. At least a $230 380X somewhat makes sense in light of overpriced $180-200 GTX960 2-4GB cards.

A max overclocked 960 cannot even touch a stock 380X in GTA V. Of course for objective PC gamers, it was known a while back that 280X smashed 960 way back nearly 1 year ago and offered 3GB of VRAM. Too bad so many gamers got suckered by marketing.

An R9 280X still sells for $170 on Newegg alongside $180-200 960 2-4GB overpriced competition. Eventually unbiased reviews and reviewers that come to their senses reveal the truth some of us have known since January 2015.
