What is a good Online PC Racing Game.

1) eye candy must be aaa (simulation/realism quality)
2) ability to race other real people online (4+ racers / preferably 8+ racers)
3) vehicle with real appearance and real performance
4) open world + track

5) NO - PAY TO WINS (hate this type of game)

1. NFS Shift 2 or Assetto Corsa
2. iRacing or rFactor 2
3. iRacing or GTR2 or Race 07
4. Test Drive Unlimited 2

A combination of most of those points are Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox One. Racers on PC are so scattered and a mess, I'm a long time avid video game racer and that's my experience, console has a better hold on racing games but the selection are far and between.

Assetto Corsa I think amazing. Not finished yet, no not sure about the online, although I believe theres a multiplayer mode for sure. It's a sim game though, really good on a wheel if you want a game aiming more for realism than for just thrills. Looks quite good too.

I am/was a big fan of Forza on the Xbox360, but they lost me with the Xbone and Forza 5. With the Forza series, the graphics quality always improves with each release, but the price goes up and content goes down. Turn 10 has some of the worst customer service and treat the people who buy their games like crap.

I am currently switching back to the PC. I agree with TeknoBug that the racing games and communities are not what they are on consoles, but I think that's because on consoles, your racing choices are very limited and more concentrated.

I haven' done much online racing yet, but I would say the most realistic racing game available now is Assetto Corsa. GRID Autosport is a decent, more arcadey racing game, no sure about the multiplayer but it's a Codemasters game so there should be something there.

I think what I, and many other racing sim enthusiasts are waiting for is Project Cars. I got a chance to play one of the pre-release versions and it is very nice. I think it will give the Forza series a run for it's money.

I don´t have time to game as much as I used to so I enjoy GRID Autosport inmensely for what it is... an arcade racing game with some simulation style elements thrown in. Plays great with an X360 gamepad as well. Although I´m sure Asseto Corsa is better in every conceivable way, I just don´t have the time to invest in a full simulation type game.

Has anyone compared AC to PCARS? Aren´t they both supposed to be Sim oriented racers? Is either one of them actually released yet or are they stil considered pre-release betas?

Next Car Game now has Multiplayer, but is still an Early Access game. It looks very good though and from what I have seen it is very polished already.

I too am waiting for Project CARS, already preordered it for PS4 and if it's good enough I may get a copy of it for PC too.

I've played both games in pre-release versions. They are both good racing sims, but from what I've seen(and it's only my personal opinion), Project Cars is a more detailed, involved and realistic racing sim. Thing is, as a racing enthusiast, I think I'd have to pick one or the other because they are both the same genre of closed track racing simulator. Also, by the time you buy the game, DLC and maybe a steering wheel, it's going to cost a few bucks.

When you get tired of realistic racing at LeMans or Hockenhiemring, you can relax a bit and have some fun driving around with the arcade style TDU or GRID, which are pretty reasonably priced now and sure to be cheaper soon.

It's going to be a good time to be a PC car racing enthusiast.

It depends how flexible you want to be with point #4, I don´t think I´ve ever even heard of an open world sim.

Give TDU2 or Grid Autosport a try, you should be able to get them pretty cheap by now.

I like Assetto Corsa but it still has a ways to go in depth, so far so good for an early access game. But I'm waiting for Project CARS, it's supposed to have dynamic weather which I'm looking forward to, Driveclub is showing the potential of dynamic weather in a racing game and that's just the beginning for the future of racing games. I love racing at night in rFactor, GTR2 and Race 07 and such and there's a degree of rain in some older racers but not at the level Driveclub is displaying.

The pre-release version I played did have dynamic weather. You can also set the weather pattern; sunny for the start of the race and rain at the end. Some of the weather settings are more demanding of your video card, if you have a modest graphics card you may have to dial down the settings to have a race in monsoon conditions.

Driving on wet roads adds some excitement...

Get The Crew. Good gfx, open world, multiplayer, etc.. It's a happy medium between nfsu2 and tdu2

The Crew is a lot of fun but pretty arcade, at least until you get more high end cars and adjust settings..

too bad OP has never played WipeOut2097. which has none of the things he wants in a perfect racing game.

IMHO the best sim for racing was Nascar Racing 2003 by Papyrus. then EA bought it and made Junk out of it!!

The new NASCAR games aren't bad, I still have '13 and played '14 (basically the same as '13), early on it's tough to keep up with the pack on non-plate tracks.

Not free, not the active anymore (if at all), and doesn't have open world racing. the new need for speed hot pursuit was really good. One of the few racing games that finally got my attention after a long while. I'd still play it if I didn't keep getting raped at it online.

I played Hot Pursuit and its decent. I would not call it really good.
It doesnt fullfill the OP's requirements either but he's asking for something very specific.
