Racism/Discrimination in America...

I was at a all you can eat Hometown Buffet with a hispanic friend who I treated out for dinner. He is about 57 years old and the hispanic looking cashier automatically gave him senior citizen rates.

I'll bet if he was non-hispanic, the cashier would charge regular price.

How can we live in a color-blind society? We can't. With the programs the OP stated and arguments about whether we have enough black head coaches in profession/collegiate sports, we are encouraging people to focus MORE on a certain race/color.

Don't think of it as racism or discrimination. Think of it as more of an identity issue. We live in a country of multiculturalism.

The simple truth is we are heavily dependent on TV for pop culture. Children have to grow up with this stuff. Who do they identify themselve with and what is their culture? It's not entirely surprising that certain groups do not think that the status quo is representive of their culture and want to preserve their original culture. When that group becomes large enough they create their own TV station and generate enough ratings. Why does anyone see a problem with that?

If you didn't immigrate here, it's hard for you to understand that there is an identity issue. A lot of grandparents and parents from foreign countries are dismayed that their offsprings have become completely assimulated into this new culture without retaining any of theirs.

Yes, minorities have an identity issue when living in the U.S. Does the predominently white majority have the same problem? I would hope not. I absolutely fail to understand why having a few Spanish, asian, or black channels would create such a response. You can easily change the dial to any other 100+ channels. Having a "white" channel is silly and redundent.

It is called Black Entertainment awards to make it stand out to those looking for that kind of entertainment. Not too long ago it was very very difficult to find entertainment geared toward your culture. That is why it is called Black Entertainment Television (BET). To make it stand out amongst the majority white content.
It has always been easy for Whites to find stuff to watch.

If you are not a minority, it may be difficult to understand.

Yes, thank God the media is telling us minority folk what to watch.

I'd be totally lost if I had to figure out on my own which channel I was supposed to be watching

I was shoved around and beaten on the school bus in middle school because I was a "white boy" and one day I finally told them to "shut up" for verbally harassing me all day. It happens, but nobody really cares. Hehe, to me though, it was just growing up and I was glad I experienced it.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was an Irish-American Movie Awards or Italian or any other ethnicity. Black Entertainment Television (BET) more represents a type of culture. I suppose if African-Americans could identify with a specific ethnicity there wouldn't be an overall BET. What is white culture? I have heard of Italian, Irish, etc. -American culture that are for predominantly white groups.

You have a disadvantage because of your race or skin color = Racism = Bad
You have no advanatge or disadvantage because of your race or skin color = Racism = Bad
You have an advantage because of your race or skin color = Not Racism = Good

diversity is a country's greatest burden. see the divisions among cultures in the US, see it happening in the UK. australia had a clashes last year because of lebanese immigrants who wouldnt integrate into the mainstream. yes, it's cool being able to go around the corner and get great ethnic food, but it comes at a price.

look at countries that are largely composed of one ethnicity. japan. saudi arabia. their social problems are of a much different nature, and probably much easier to address.

Ugh, White angst is some of the sorriest sh1t in existance. We Whites controlled everything for so long that it was assumed Whites won this or that award. We Whites already had our "White" Awards, we just never bothered to label them as such.

What you are seeing now are the Minorities simply making their way in society and establishing a History which future members will use as a foundation. In time things will mix together and the whole Race thing will become a thing of the past. Stop whining like little b1tches about it.

jews are jews. they're not white. white = anyone who looks european or... you know... white. it's not hard to tell if someone's jewish, in most cases.

they're not... they'd be discriminating if they had a sign that said "no crackas allowed" and would oppress white people in some way.

they don't do that... their "discrimination" is in the form of celebrating their diversity and culture. also, almost all of them are not exclusive to blacks. even naacp awards are open to whites.

black people never had power... they didn't create laws that would make it hard for you to overcome and be equal to everyone else. whites did.

yeah, you may be a victim of some racial tensions... who HASN'T had that happen to them? the difference is that isolated incidents like this are WAAAAY minor in comparison to how widespread the oppression and racism of whites was/is over other races.

wtf is "white culture"? there's no such thing, really. there's irish culture, french culture, german culture, etc...

whenever a group of people feel oppressed, they need to join together as a support system. it creates a racial, philosophical, and cultural bond amongst each other. you need to understand how other people think and feel before you go talking pro-white groups stuff. yeah, i can understand what you guys are all saying, but it doesn't matter when you take the other side's argument into account.
