Except you are missing the part where including the question lowers response rates. This from the bureau’s own analysis and testing. So your premise is fundamentally flawed people who elect to not respond at all are not counted and and therefore an undercount occurs.

You are clearly wrong. Refusing to answer does not mean they wont be counted.

The p[problem with your logic is, one can still refuse to answer the question, and they will be counted. So, basically, your theory falls flat. There is zero downside to asking, and it is perfectly within the bounds of the census.

The people answering don’t know that, so they don’t answer. This isn’t my theory, it’s confirmed by empirical research.

The question isn’t if the census is ABLE to ask it, it’s if it’s smart for them to ask it. It is not and this is common sense.

You forgot the rest of the convo:

Illegals: I refuse to answer!
GOP: thats fine, you'll still be counted.

The full truth changes your talking point significantly.

Where did you hear this nonsense? This is obviously wrong.

I mean why do you think the GOP is trying so hard to include it and people are fighting so hard against it?

And the dance continues with several asking Starbuck the same damned thing and him deflecting, dancing, never answering the issue directly. Obfuscate, dance, deflect......over and over and over. Gets tiring. Starbuck, amongst others, remind me of the moron in the corner hitting himself in the head with a hammer. When asked why, the moron says "Because it feels so good when I stop." But these morons won't stop because they enjoy the hammer, sadly.
Use the @ symbol if you’re going to call me out. I prefer a hammer that also makes squeaky noises.

Are you denying the empirical evidence about this?
Nope. But you seem to ignore or refuse to accept that if someone doesn't answer they will be counted. You simply say they will reject the census altogether when all they have to do is refuse to answer that question

So dishonest. From your link-

Refusing to answer any census question, or intentionally giving a false answer to one, can result in a fine, according to federal law. And returning an incomplete census questionnaire may lead to a phone call or an in-person visit to your home by workers from the Census Bureau, which hired more than 600,000 door-knockers to follow up with households that did not respond to the 2010 census.

Nevermind that illegals want nothing to do with the federal govt in general, particularly not the Trump admin.

The article also notes that the question is included at the request of the DoJ. Except that the Commerce dept seeded the question with the DoJ, with a little Kurt Kobach action thrown in, too-

If it's so legit, why are they lying & dodging?

But the governments own testing says that is exactly what happens.

Put yourself in the place of an undocumented resident to see through your own calculated bullshit.

Imagine you've been here over 10 years, like the vast majority. You have a good life & want to keep it. There you are with the census form in the mail, which calls for you to reveal your immigration status to the fucking Trump admin. What to do? You pitch it & pray it all goes away.

The GOP is depending on that. That's what it's all about, from the start. They prey on fear in all kinds of ways.

The only reason there is the risk of an undercount is because Democrats have linked the census question to fear of deportation. It is a data point, nothing more. If facts have a liberal bias, Democrats should be proactively encouraging participation in the census, unless of course they fear the political implications of what those numbers truly are.
Anybody with half a brain knows this census question more than just a data point. How nieve can you actually be???

My feelings are irrelevant.

Democrats: Don’t answer the racist census question that is a deportation trap!

Hysterics ensue

Democrats: The census is going to under represent our districts!

I don’t recal ever saying that. In fact I specifically said that wasn't the issue and then I explained what the issue was.

Anyone else find it telling that Starbuck can't acknowledge the point people are actually making and instead argues against something else?

Yes, what is it about this question that would cause an undercount I wonder. Surely not deportation hysterics.

That seems pretty irrelevant don't you think? If the results are a lower response rate which results in a less accurate census count it really doesn't matter what their reason behind not responding is, now does it?
