Guh, some moron got caught on camera making stupid racist comments on a tram the other day:

She's just been arrested, yay transport police. It's rare to see such racism and it's good when they catch the fuckers. I can't believe what she says, but the fact that she says it all with her kid on her lap makes it worse.

This has been a big national story over here in the UK for the last 24 hours.

Ever seen similar racism or maybe even been subjected to it? I've never come across it first hand.

It's not that big of a story if I had to go digging well into the UK section to find a 100 word article on the BBC.

UK seems to like to conveniently act like racism doesn't exist over there, news flash it does and always has.

She's an idiot sure, and yes I have seen similar stuff, and no I don't condone it.

You can be arrested for acting like that in the states too - though it'd be about HOW she's saying it rather than what she's saying. Disturbing the peace - at a minimum she'd be kicked off the train.

It's actually not. Some white woman (sounds uneducated, street accent) decently enough dressed, kid is too, yelling obscenities towards anyone polish or of another color on the train.

I dunno. I am not at all for censorship, but when using shared transport services, I would think it should be restricted in some way shape or form. You're not allowed to yell bomb on airplane, so I don't see why yelling racists and hateful slurs on a bus/tram is permissible.

Free speech is one thing, but nearly instigating an all out riot that is only being stopped by cool headed passengers and the idiot's own child... that isn't something that should be permissible anywhere.
