Knee jerk response without looking at the video?

I'm glad she got arrested. How does anyone think its acceptable to talk like that on a crowded train full of kids?

Acceptable? Perhaps not...but definitely NOT worthy of being arrested or otherwise criminally charged.

Free speech is easy to defend when you agree with what's being said...it's often much more difficult when you hate what the person is saying.

OR..

I disapprove of what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Though it's not acceptable (and from what I could google, it's not even legal), it still seems a little over the top to criminally charge her. I guess Brits just have really thin skins

Free speech is fine but you don't get to say whatever you want whereever you want. Crowded public transport is not the place to act like that (hell, I'm not sure anywhere but a bar with like minded idiots is the place to act like that).

I don't disagree that what she said was offensive or wrong...I just disagree with the arrest for saying it.

The transportation agency would have been within their rights to kick her off the train/subway/bus for it.

I'm glad I live in a country where free speech is protected, unlike the UK.

That being said this woman sounds like a typical chav loser. No personal sympathy for her.

Its not like she'll get locked up for it, they'll just tell her not to do it again and maybe fine her. Maybe she'll learn to express her views a bit more politely next time.

Not sure what she was charged with but, could have been something like inciting to riot.

Just watched the video, I'm surprised she would get arrested for that. Only if the train authorities came to take her off and she refused, THEN I can see merit to her arrest.

She's racist. So fucking what?

If the comments of one woman hurt you so much, you need to grow a thicker fucking skin. It's not like she's burning black people and Polish people alive while yelling "WHITE BRIT POWER!" over and over again.

She should have been asked to leave the train at the next stop. But being arrested? That's just fucking lunacy.

So if I'm on the train with my kids or elderly mum I should put up with her foul mouth?

you seem to think that being arrested is some massive deal where by she gets locked up for 20 years or something

Everyday but w/ much more subtlety, 'cause my customers are all high rollers with 6 figure income. When you make a racist remark, it should be delivered w/ subtlety and a smile.

I don't care that you don't want her arrested, she knew the rules, its her problem and her responsibility that she ignored them.

That's one of those things you deal with in life. Hardly a day goes by where something doesn't piss me off, but I don't expect arrests to happen because I'm displeased. It's just like the internet. You give people an audience, they'll be happy to perform for you ;^)

Contradictory much?

That said probably wasn't wise.

I can turn the internet off, its something I choose to subject myself to. And I certainly monitor my kids internet use.

So, no. Its nothing like the internet.

It's not that big of a story if I had to go digging well into the UK section to find a 100 word article on the BBC.

UK seems to like to conveniently act like racism doesn't exist over there, news flash it does and always has.

She's an idiot sure, and yes I have seen similar stuff, and no I don't condone it.

Erm.

It's unlawful to go off on a racist rant like that, but that's us "acting like racism doesn't exist over here". Logic issue detected.

Perhaps you should be better informed before casting judgement about the attitudes of people in another country. Just because some racist bigot's rant on a train doesn't get front-page news is perhaps not because "we're trying to sweep it under the carpet". How many idiots in your country do you suppose are engaging in similar behaviour today? Why don't they all have prime-time news time? Oh yeah, it must be because your country's media is engaged in a cover-up.

There was German, Frenchman and Polak in the desert.

The German had a flask. The Frenchman had a pouch. The Pollock had a car door.

The Frenchman asks the German why he has the flask. "Well, if I get thirsty, I have something to drink", replied the German.

The German asks the Frenchman why he has the pouch. "Well, if get hungry from all of the walking, I have something to eat", replied the Frenchman.

Both of them turned to the Polak and asked why had the door, to which the Polak replied "Well, if I get too hot, I can roll down the window"
