I live in NY and see mixed couples all the time, but this does not happen on tv and is very out of place - not typical and noticeable. The connection that they are a family is not immediately there and that's why it's noticeable. Actually I will say that white male and asian female is the only common mismatch (not a negative term) which happens on a lot of HGTV (real couples).

I thought it was strange that the mother says whole-grain oats "removes cholesterol" from your body.

I've never heard that specifically stated before. I thought eating whole grains simply displaces some of the unhealthy things you might have eaten instead...and Cheerios paid BIG money for the American Heart Association seal.

WV was a Union state. Not sure they ever had plantations or a very big slave trade. Mountains aren't very good for that kind of thing. Not sure how they got specifically lumped in with the "southerners are racist" stereotype. Isn't their feudin' miner hillbilly stereotype enough?

To me, more disturbing than making racial comments is that our society has reached a level where we even comment at all on a commercial for cereal.
