Radeon 290 and coil whine

So I just took delivery of my Sapphire 290 yesterday and love it, other then the annoying coil whine. I can live with the fan noise as it honestly isn't as bad as what some people were making it out to be, but the coil whine is driving me nuts...

It seems to be worse in some games i.e Crysis and hardly noticeable in others i.e BF4. I have noticed enabling Vsync stops it almost all together.

Has anyone else experienced this on their 290? I'm on the fence about sending it back, but I'm not sure if that will accomplish anything if this is going to be a common issue.

I hear some when I'm in menus that are producing FPS over 1000. At any framerate that is lower I don't hear it, which means my games are immune since I tend to use V-sync when possible. This is the same kind of behavior I had with my 7970 and GTX 260. Something about outputting so many frames at any one time seems to do it for my cards.

Coil whine is a feature.

Coil Wine in my experience usually comes from HIGH FPS. Especially on menu's etc. Up your settings and report back.

You can get rid of the coil whine by leaving it running on a game menu that produces the highest coil whine for about 48 hours straight.

Coil whine on both 2x Gigabyte 290x, I believe it's as JBT says. Only noticed after starting a game and prior to fans spinning up during gameplay. I dont hear whine or notice when card is idle.

I had a Sapphire 290x that had no coil whine but the fan was bad. Now I have an MSI 290 and it has Mild to moderate coil whine. Acceptable. 75.2% ASIC. I noticed the lower ASIC scores seem like they have louder coil whine from my experience. (Maybe because of a higher default voltage?)

my 7970 has an asic of 57.9 buts its default voltage is 1.175. I hear coil whine in certain games but its far and in between. Is that really bad?

No, your fine. You just won't be getting any high overclocks on air. If the coil whine only happens while gaming then you are good. I had cards that would squeal when I moved the mouse on the desktop. Annoying!
