The core/memory speed is 148/148 (which can be adjusted ) in stead of 166/166 and there is no fan on the heatsink. That's the only difference with the retail card, besides the nice box of course

I read in another forum from Lawton that the 32Mb OEM cards run at 166MHz and the 64Mb cards run at 148. Don't know where the info came from...

Edit: I also read that these cards run cool and don't require a fan.

CLOCK SPEED is the frequency at which a graphics chip or graphics memory operates. In terms of graphics boards, the clock speed is expressed with 2 numbers (i.e. 183/183). The first number represents the speed of the graphics chip engine, the second number represents the speed of the memory.

Go for it. Latest drivers in Win2k are pretty good and getting better all the time. Got mine in December and am very happy.

Go to Video card forum-lots of posts & helpful people re the Radeon.

PS-I only ran Win2k for a few days-had some other issues with my system (& with me-don't know too much about Win2k).

Hey. 32mb Radeons are clocked at 166/166. Many are reporting these OEM 32DDR cards to be clocked at 148/148, but easily move to 166/166 with Powerstrip. OEM 64mb cards are also clocked at 166/166, as are the 32mb AIW cards. Retail 64mb (VIVO) cards are clocked at 183/183.

My retail 32DDR card is running now at 185/185 (Powerstrip 2.74 o/c) just fine, no problems.

Anyone play Counter-Strike for Half Life with this card? Ive heard compatibility issues with the cards and CS. Can anyone confirm or should i go to planethalflife.com. Oh well im already here I will order one myself if there are no problems with cs. Sure beats GF2 GTS prices.

Dave, that review is comparing the Radeon SDR, not the DDR. Also, it is comparing the Geforce 2 MX, not the Geforce 2 GTS--the latter being the card commonly abbreviated as "Geforce 2." Anyway, the Radeon DDR should be faster than a Geforce 2 MX, and faster at high resolutions than a vanilla Geforce 2 GTS (though slower than a Geforce 2 Pro/Ultra).

Tyrant, I play tons of CS with my Radeon. It's great. I am running a SlotA T-bird at 750 on a K7Pro mobo (that means AMD Irongate chipset, 2x AGP), and my FPS in CS is bouncing around between 100fps (server-set max on most CS servers) and 70fps. The color is great, and the image quality is better IMO than the Herc Prophet II I used to have (that's a full-bore GeForce2 GTS, btw).

Running Win98 the 32mb DDR Radeon was faster with release drivers in 32bit at 1024x768 (and higher) than the GeForce2 card at that time. nVidia released the Detonator3 drivers after the Radeon came out, and that boosted the GF2 back on top speed-wise. In 16bit the GF2 spanks the Radeon--and it was quite amusing to see 16bit suddenly become so very important to nVidia fans (wasn't 16bit something pitiful and archaic when the Voodoo cards couldn't do 32? Umm... yeah.).

Anyway, with 98, 98se, and WinME the cards you should be comparing are the DDR Radeon cards and the DDR GeForce2 cards (the MX is an SDR card). The GeForce2 cards are faster. The Radeon cards produce better image quality according to most reviewers, and aren't too much slower at high res 32bit stuff. A $97 Radeon is a MUCH better value than a $105 GF2_MX, unless you are a Win2k user (and we haven't even mentioned DVD, have we?).
