Radeon 32MB DDR keeps dropping - $91.99 (caution: LE (low end) model?!)

I think you are right about the LE. Take a look HERE. The article shows the fanless HS and the 148/148 clock. I'm not sure how crippled the LE is from the normal card. I'll have one of these next week and will do some testing on it.

i just sold my geforce2mx which is tweaked to the max to buy a slightly better card and break even. now you're telling me i'm getting a crippled radeon that won't even be better than my leadtek!!

they point directly to the 32 ddr radeon, nothing states that it is an LE model. it merely says it's an oem version of the radeon.

very angry...if this is a damn LE i'm RMAing today!

I am going to be really unhappy if I get an LE monday. I went to ATI sight and read about the LE before I ordered this card. The specs presented at newegg definately were not those of the LE model. I'll wait till my box shows up but if it is the LE model this is just plain robery.

I got mine and don't see any indication of it being le, but it runs at 148 clock so I assume it is.

The sticker is on the metal bracket that holds the card in the slot.....on the VGA connector out side!!

I haven't tried the card yet....thinking of calling and sending back! Definitely a misrepresentation of a product! :|

is it illegal to buy the real version at fry's and replace it with the LE version? With Fry', sometimes outrageous prices... i think they could afford it. Not saying i will do this at all tho. Mite try to talk to Newegg.com CS and see what i can do with them.

I can almost guarantee these cards do not feature HyperZ. We just bought 200 of them, (www.tcwo.com) and we are selling them for a little less, and straight from ATI. I found some interesting benchmarks on the card, from xbit labs.

Benchmarks w/o HyperZ

I say interesting because they indicate that the card would be a dog w/o HyperZ, but the meager differences in the benchmarks make me think this is a hell of a deal at it's current price.

And yes, we note that these units do not have HyperZ.

Okay, after asking a friend ( who owns a radeon), he told me that the LE is the version of the Radeon with ONLY A HEATSINK, NO FAN. It has all of the same features of the normal Radeon. They only difference is that they don't attach a fan, and put it @148/148. However, people have been able to get these up to 180 fairly easily, depending if it has 5.5 or 6.0 ram. The retail radeons will come with 5.5 or 6.0 also. I hope this clears things up a little.

I just recived mine in the mail from newegg.com. And it works like a charm. The image quality is awesome especially in SOF. Good frame rate. No problems with the install. No problems running dual monitors. Not sure about win2k.

According to one of the earlier post ( about a review in chinese), the LE DOES have a simplified hyper-z circuit.

Ok, a bunch of people bought those cheap $100 Radeon cards that are clocked @ 148/148. I bought one as well for a friends PC but wont have it till middle of next week. I need you to run a test to see if hyper-Z works. I tested this on my own VIVO 64 and it is a valid test. First, use regedit and setup the following:

Record your min, max, average framerate.

Next, turn off hyper-Z with the following changes to the reg file:

Run the Thunder benchmark again and record the results. On my system, I drop about 10 fps on the average score, which proves Hyper-z works on my VIVO 64. We need to know if it works on these LE cards.

Whoever can do this will be doing all of the LE buyers a great favor by getting this test done!!

I just sent this e-mail to ATI support CANADA:


I purchased a new Radeon 32MB DDR card off of the internet for only $97 dollars. When I received the card it didn't have a fan and the pcb layout was different than that of the "normal" 32mb ddr radeon. I also noticed that on the side it said "RADEON LE." I have been reading forums for about an hour now many of us have no clue what this card has and doesn't have. Does the Radeon LE card have a T&L unit and full Hyper-Z? What is different about the Radeon LE and the normal Radeon 32MB DDR card?

I just got mine yesterday from newegg. Didnt see an LE sticker on it and it works pretty good in W2K. Framerates kinda suck in quake 3 though

Well the Newegg score at resellerratings should be dropping. At least they could have waited until ATI released some info on this LE card. I didn't buy one, but I came quite close, and I'd definitely be feeling like a victim of false advertising.
