Radeon 32MB DDR keeps dropping - $91.99 (caution: LE (low end) model?!)

Ok i bout this card back on 1/17, when it was $115. I would love to get a couple of bucks back because i'm a poor college student at an expensive school. Could you guys tell me what you said when you called/in your e-mail.
The clockspeed on my card is 143/143, i have since uped it with powerstrip

I just called up and told them that they shipped me an Radeon LE and advertised a regular Radeon. After being asked what I wanted them to do I asked would it be easier for them to refund me some money since they shipped me a lower-end board or have me send it back? They refunded me $20.

edit/update: first i got some chick...she had NO clue what i was talking about....
then i get some arrogant guy. he said that they NEVER changed the picture. I have the printout. well...i only got a 8 dollar adjustment for the difference what i paid for and what it cost today. they denied the whole ati link and i couldnt get the guy to go to the friggin page. has the LE even shipped retail?? i told them the ati link shows a fan, but they dont mention it at all. they need to. good thing its just money. bait and switch sucks.

I just built a system for my brother (computerless) out of old parts I had laying around. I purchased the Radeon LE for him and the Maxtor 20GB ($70). I only had a PII 233 for the processor and have been very dissapointed with the results. Also, I am using the latest version of Powerstrip (non Beta - ver3.0 would not load) and it only allows me to overclock the memory speed (default is 148) ... the clock speed is greyed out and set to 0??? I have been contemplating putting my PIII 800 in his system to see if the scores would go up ... his scores don't touch my system!

Any suggestions are welcome! (I have downloaded Raid-on Tweak 3 and tweaked the registry with the recommended settings for gamers. (HyperZ enabled, etc, etc)

His system:

Shuttle 440LX Mobo
128mb PC100 SDRAM
PII 233
32mb Radeon LE
CL Soundblaster AWE 64
PCI 10/100 nic
CL 33.6 Modem
20gb Maxtor HD 5,400rpm

Also, what version drivers are you guys using? I had problems with the DX8 Beta's and the latest releases, so am now using the ones that came with the board. I think I know what the prob was with the latest officials and may try reloading them!

Scores (test scores were run at 1024x768 - default, UT was ran at 800x600 - perfect for the old 15" monitor I am giving him):

Video 2000 Pro - 1405 (Qual 718, Perf 156, Features 530)
3D Mark 2000 Pro - 1809 (Helicopter 29.9, 22.3, 16.2 FPS - L,M,H respectively)
(Action 50.6, 19.9, 11.8 FPS - same)
UT (800x600 16bit, high everything) - I ran the first Deathmatch "Oblivion" - avg'd 27.5 FPS

Those are at the standard core speeds (since I haven't been able to OC the clock speed - I didn't want to run them asyncronously)

Impatiently waiting some suggestions , we are suppose to have a LAN party this weekend :|

Searchname, the processor is what's holding back that system so I doubt overclocking it will produce any dramatic results. Might wanna get a nice cheap 366@550 celeron setup

That's what I figured! I will probably pop my PIII 800 or Celeron 600 in there to see what kind of increases I could expect! Thanks!

More advise is welcomed (Driver versions?, how to chg the clock speed)

Also, what's the best Celeron to buy? I want one that has a high rate of overclockability. The board I gave him only has two FSB settings (66 or 100), so it's all or none!

The Celeron 600 is my wifes, so I can't give it to him. Also, his board is a Slot 1 not FC-PGA, although I could buy a slotket.

I didn't think so either, but when I downloaded the latest Flash (the notes said they added support for Celeron and PIII, so apparently so) Guess I'll find out momentarily.

tnaw_xtennis, the man who brought us a detailed how-to on the GeForce to Quadro hack back in August, wrote in to tell us of another hack he has posted on his Geocities page, this one to improve the performance of the budget Radeon LE cards. Now, you won't be able to get up to full Radeon speed with this hack because of the slower hardware used on the LE, but what you do get is a re-enabling of ATI's HyperZ feature, and the benchmarks on tnaw_xtennis's page show this not to be a waste of your time. This is especially so because the hack in question is just a registry hack. You don't get much easier than that. Now, as always, be aware that messing with your registry is not to be taken lightly, and also be aware that we haven't verified this hack in the Ars Labs. Anyone out there in Forum land have an LE they wanna try this on? -Ator

I purchased the Radeon LE card and am sending it back today, I thought that it would be faster than my Powercolor EvilKyro 64mb card but was dissapointed to find out that it wasn't. I will stick with my INTERNAL TRUE COLOR Kyro and purchase the KyroII when they come out.
