I just got mine, too! Had to go with HIS, sapphire was OOS. Good thing, I'd rather have HIS anyway!

HIS went instock for a little while earlier then went OOS again at NCIX. Thank goodness...apparently my Diamond 3870 has shipped!!! I should get it tomorrow...will post results as soon as I can.

According to the Hardware Canucks review...most coolers and waterblocks (non-full coverage) that fit the X1K series and the 2900 series will fit the 3800 series...soooo...looks like I can try my Maze4 on it. Unfortunately most overclocks seem to top out at 860MHz for the core...I hope it's not a BIOS limitation.

The 2600XT had the same problem...BUT...a trick was to set the core above 885-890 (bypassing everything between 860 and 890) and then it would work again...that's how I got my 2600XT to 890MHz core...but I had to use AMDGPUClock tool to do it. CCC Overdrive and Rivatuner both didn't work. And ATITool doesn't work properly in Vista.

Do you guys think it's worth it to just buy the 3870 now instead of waiting for the 8800 GT to drop in price? I'd like a video card, but I'm not paying more than $220 for it (before shipping, of course).

I don't think that it's likely that the 8800gt 512 will get down that low. HIS is back in stock at newegg if you're interested

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814161212

newegg doesn't have an 8800gt lower than 269.99. realistically, board partners aren't going to drop prices on 8800gt until there is a decent supply of them relative to demand. 3870 at 219.99 + shipping should put a pretty good dent in demand, now it's a matter of supply. will "a couple hundred thousand" boards be enough to satisfy demand, esp when you take oem/256mb boards into account? I think it's awfully telling that 3870 keeps going oos and 3850 is just fine. Realistically, there's a good chance that we'll see a month or two of this oos/back in stock game and high prices on 3870 and 8800gt 512 both. after that, who knows? I think that prices SHOULD settle closer to 200-225 for 8800gt 512 based upon what nvidia has said, but that will also be on the el-cheapo 6 layer boards. You're going to be held back by that A64 no matter which card you choose, so you may as well go with the cheaper one.

I would buy it if Newegg didn't have the no-refunds policy going. If they had the regular policy, I'd bite. And it's in their favor, too; I would be returning/refunding to buy an 8800GT (I would be willing to pay $235 or so for the GT, since it gets an extra 5-10 frames).

Edit: I'm irked! The Sapphire has a refundable policy and it's OOS! I'll be checking tonight and tomorrow...

they probably have that in effect on both cards b/c the price is higher than they think it should be; ie, they expect prices on both cards to go down over time, it's just a matter of HOW MUCH time it takes to knock them down. I expected 8800gt 512 prices to tank to 200 by now based upon statements from nvidia bigwigs, but now I wouldn't be surprised if they never go south of 250

too late...HIS is oos now so all 3870's are oos at newegg. It's crazy that they're $20 cheaper than anybody else, they must have million of these things on the way.

Place your order today and be one of the first to recieve this product when it arrives!

Tempting price if pushing it, but no. The thing is, my padres are giving me $200 for my 18th birthday (along with a nice dinner or something), and I would like a new GPU. But I would also need a new PSU to keep it running safely, which brings me to at least $300 with this price. So the 3870 for $220 is looking very nice.

AnandTech Review:

"We can expect the stock clocked 512MB 8800 GT to hit $200 at the low end. The 256MB part, which won't show up until the end of November, will hit prices below $200."

Give it a week or two.

You can easily run 3870 with your power supply. Heck you can probably power up a gtx.

yeah, don't fall prey to the psu nazis. 450w is actually the recommended psu for 3870. realistically with it's 105w tdp you could use much much less than that in a pinch, esp with your current rig. ditto for 8800gt, it is also very low tdp.

Was just browsing looking for the Powercolor HD3870 Xtreme edition and my jaw almost dropped out of my mouth when I saw what tigerdirect.ca (Obviously I'm in Canada).was charging for the HIS 3870. Are they out of their minds! Talk about gouging!!

This price is naturally before taxes & shipping. $317 CAD is ridiculous.

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/appl...=3481253&sku=H231-3870

Edit: Ncix is charging $239 CAD for the same product!. I'll let you all draw your own conclusions.

that's crazy, esp when newegg is selling them so much cheaper AND they have a better reputation.

I didn't pull the trigger but got to the last screen at outpost. It's 266 after tax and shipping for me and nothing indicates its not in stock. for non californians it could be a decent deal.

Well I got to that same screen and DID pull the trigger on 2 3870's. It says it will ship today ,but that remains to be seen. Total was 482.49 with overnight shipping. I was trying to check the egg quite often today but I missed the release, so this looked like my next best option.

Couldnt you have bought a 8800GTX for that price?

But then my Crossfire MB would go to waste .

OP should recheck out links this morning -- this first one to Diamond is now $299 -- the egg (if it was ever instock) is listed at $220

I'm sensing price gouging all around once again
