Radeon 7500 Diablo II performance

Anyway to get some more performance out of diablo II on radeon 7500? Overclocking only helps a small bit, but its a far cry from my voodoo3 in performance.

Its been a long time since I played Diablo II...

but Diablo II is an ancient game, and was designed on the 3dfx Glide API, so the Voodoo cards will get the most out of Diablo II using HW acceleration. Also note that this game is highly CPU intensive (ironic ... ) because it uses NO 3D whatsoever; just some lighting effects. So basically I believe the only thing that would give you better performance is more CPU power or putting that Voodoo back in.

Just run it in 2d mode.

Some parts won't look AS pretty, but considering your framerate won't suffer one bit (if your CPU is ok). The added lighting just isn't worth a huge performance hit to me.

What doesn't work right? I play this game with a 7500 and it works great.

If you have anisotropic filtering on, turn it off.

My guess is that what you REALLY have is a driver issue. A Radeon 7500 with an Athlon CPU @1333 is plenty to run the same totally smooth. I have two machines running this card. One with a 1333 Athlon runs perfectly fine. I think you have old drivers left in there causing issues. ATI cards are bad if you have anything left over. Try a program llike RegCleaner to find anything left over from the VooDoo maybe. Get to a Standard PCI card installation and clean out all remnants of the ATI and Voodoo and try another clean install.
