RADEON 7500 giving me a headache. Please help!

I unloaded every bit of the old Voodoo5-5500 drivers and registry entries. I put the RADEON 7500 in and loaded the new 9008 betas. Everything seemed ok until all of a sudden I have no sound! The RADEON deleted it from my display properties! Windows doesn't see it and when I tried loading the SB Live! drivers it said I didn't have one!

Also, when I'm playing GLQuake or QuakeII it's choppy as hell no matter what resolution I'm at or if Vsync is on or off. With my Voodoo5-5500 those games played like movies...smooth as butter. All I had to do was lower the refresh rate for GLQuake to 70hertz and to 75hertz for QuakeII.

It doesn't work with this RADEON 7500. Also my scored doubled in 3DMark2001 from 1450 to 2987 but I lost 1000 points in 3DMark1999. With the Voodoo5 I got 5700 but with this card I only got 4700!!!

Any body got any ideas?

ATI's drivers are a JOKE!! They never released any good working drivers since they came out with the Radeon crapps!!

I had a 7500 & hated it.

The best way to get your drivers installed correctly is to remove the old driver entries in you registry, OR reinstall your OS, OR change the IRQ's.

ok... enought with bashing ATI drivers... yes they WERE crappy to start off... for example when i first got my AIW-Radeon nothing worked in Win2K. Now with the latest beta drivers (9008 or 6011) everthing works for my Radeon 7500 and my AIW-Radeon. 2D image is fantastic and 3D is good enough. People thinking about getting ATI cards... don't think twice cuz of the poor driver support... the drivers now work fine... i have tested RTCW, Starcraft, Diablo 2, Ghost Recon, Black Thorn, 4x4 evo2, NFS 5, etc... plus you get excellent dual display and great tv out. Yes Nvidia beat's it in the 3D department but in 2D and functionality, ATI kills Nvidia. Later.

I'd go into safe mode and look for problems in device manager, old items showing up, and exclamation points next to duplicate items.
Delete any old items that aren't currently in your machine, and the items with exclamation points next to them.

The reason you lose points in old 3dmark is because they are not programmed to take advantage of all the enhancements in newer cards. 1999 definitely doesn't support all of direct x 8, probably not 7 either.

The games being choppy is most likely old drivers still in your computer. Could be an IRQ thing, as said, but I'd look to drivers first. There should be a way to remove them completely, most uninstalls don't do it.

The Live! drivers just dissapearing isn't an ATI problem, I'm sure its a Creative one. I have had that happen on 2 occassions, on 2 computers, nothing to do with changing video drivers. although I was installing something else on both.

Do you have the latest chipset drivers and BIOS for your system?

Remove your sound card drivers. Shut down your system, and remove your sound card, re-boot and see what happens.
On my system with the 7500 i've gotten as high as 4818 score in 3DMark2001.

Yes, I have all the latest drivers and BIOS updates. Since you got nearly 5000 points in 3DMark2001 I guess it means I'm in serious need of a CPU upgrade. Maybe a 1.2GHz Tualatin Celeron oc'ed to 1.6GHz on an ABIT-ST6?

I did have to format...twice! But the problem with the choppiness was due to the 9008 3rd-party drivers and I went with ATI's own WHQL drivers from oct. 14/2000. They worked alot better. Now everything is smooth as butter.
