Just great... it really is going to take RDNA 3+ for us to see what AMD originally intended the architecture to be, eh?

Your comment confused me a bit as it sounds like a bit of a non-sequitur from the stuff in the link. lol

That being said tho, yeah, that seems to ve the general consensus among the insider circles.
But from what I gathered RDNA3+ isn't just "fixed RDNA3", I believe it has it's own new set of design targets. Which I think we all can agree we hope AMD hits.

It's an economics question. The 3070 was $499-$550 MSRP. The 6800 was a $579 and the 6800xt was $649. It's a simple supply and demand question. Crypto is done and the computer market is in the tank.

Also, how are they so fast, if they are so broken?

They are merely on par with a 378 mm2 monolith on a 256 bit bus. That is not as fast as they should be and very unlikely to have been the design target.

They fail to achieve the speeds that AMD told us during launch and they fail to reach the clock speeds that AMD told reporters the silicon was designed to achieve.

Of course, it is not broken in the sense that there is no improvement or it doesn't work. But if that were true, it would have been unlikely to be released.

I agree, I refuse to believe that the design target vs N21 was anywhere near ~40%uplift that we have now. It was probably closer to 2x (as it was for RDNA2) given 5nm to boot. If it were a bug(s) or just a bad design we don't know for sure.

But right now products have been launched and if people see them as fast enough for them at a given price is theirs to decide. If 7900 series were launched while being 20-30% faster they would've been priced accordingly as well and people would still complain.

That's nice and all, but if you fed 525W into a 4090, it's probably going to jump at least another 10 FPS.

I wouldn't mind it during the winter, but I can't imagine running something like that during the summer.

That..... may not be true at all.

Reviewers and users have noted that in many gaming conditions, the 4090 consumes less than 400W despite factory power limit being 450W. Just handing it more power won't do squat if it isn't power limited already.

It depends on the load. For rasterization only, its routinely below 400W, and closer to like 380W. But in RT titles, it can hit the 450W limit.

From what I have seen, 4090 cards scale very little with more power. In one benchmark I have seen, an undervolted 4090 at ~300W still gets about 99% performance at 4k. https://www.hardwaretimes.com/nvidi...performance-at-4k-with-a-power-limit-of-300w/

I am very curious to see how N31 continues to scale. That Sapphire card looks impressive. By general consensus, is the Sapphre Nitro or Powercolor Red Devil considered to be better?

Sapphire is the better card. And the vapor chamber actually keeps it cooler than the others as well. Its a really well designed card.

What's better. Get a AIB GPU and slap a water cooler or get a water cooled from the factory GPU?
Good question. Overall, probably depends most on the water block used and what board is used, considering power delivery and power / OC limits. I imagine having 3 8 pins would help a lot here vs only 2.

Who were able to get a XTX?

I got my hands into a reference XT, and a XFX Merc XT also, but no XTX yet.
Supposedly, I should be getting a XTX Merc also, that is, if B&H ships it soon.

For all the comments about noise, the reference version noise level doesn't seem any different than the RX 6000 series reference version.
The card is heavier than the RX 6000s, but very comparable in dimensions. The reference card will fit in almost any case.
Don't know if the Radeon logo is supposed to light up or not, because stays off in the XT reference version.

As far as the Merc, well, let's just say that is huge. Most normal sized towers won't be able to take it.
I will put it in different build and see how it goes.Big support bracket to hold it.

With adrenalin 22.12.1, and paired with a Ryzen 7 7700X on a Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite ax, the reference version card is stable and fast.

I know that the XT is looked down, and many of us see it that it exists to upsell the XTX.
In the end, however, for as much as we don't like the price, there is no faster $900 card available.
The supply of 6800XT, 6900XT and 6950XT has almost dried up, and the ones available are not far in price from a 7900 XT.
RTX 3080Tis, 3090s and 3090Tis are more expensive than a XTX.

Neah, even with a 600W power limit and fancy AIB/binning, a lousy 3-6% is all you'll see.
Everything aside, by comparison, these 3x8pin XTXs can see upwards of 15%.

Well it was one of the best last gen (for the 6800XT at least), so it wouldn't shock me.

Both the PowerColor Red Devil and XFX Speedster Merc are pretty much the cheapest 6800XTs I find in shops here.
Thinking of getting one of those and calling it a day until AMD gets it's RDNA3/+ stuff sorted lol
