That's true. OEM Radeon 8500 are not manufactured by ATI. That means we'll likely see sub-$250 Radeon 8500's, but be very careful. I'm guessing they'll utilize lower-clocked RAM modules and perhaps skimp in other areas. Might not be such a great deal...

375$ CDN for a retail box Radeon 8500 direct from ATI is pretty good... It's not as cheap as those OEM ones, but if they mess around with clock speeds and the 2D, I don't want it...

For reference, a retail box GF3 costs like 525$ CDN here. I can't wait to see benchmarks of the final board with new drivers. Even if it just matches a GF3 (which I have no doubt it will do...), I'm buying one.

Just checked ATI's official site, the Radeon 7500 is up for $199 US or $250 CAN. The Radeon 8500 is $299 US or $375 CAN, doesn't specify whether its with DVI or not....

See for yourselves HERE

*Edit - Just noticed the 32 MB Radeon is now the Radeon 7000, the 64 MB Radeon (no VIVO) is now the 7200*

<< Radeon VE 100, 32MB SDR, TV Out, Hydra Vision - $39.90 >>

i will be buying that card. dual display and tv-out, all wiht hardware DVD! this will be in my server/tv room rig, with a wireless keyboard and mouse...... i will be posting to anandtech from the damn couch
>>

I tried this myself, but text in 640x480(which I think is default for tvout) on TV is
almost unreadable, I think tvout option is mainly used for games.

Actually the 7500 is listed for $250 bucks Canadian. And it does say that it has a DVI.

Dean,
your right, my bad, I edited the post above to reflect the change. That's what I get for doing 3 things at once . Imagine that, Canucks getting computer gear for LESS than US Price*conversion rate :Q

well since ATI is based around Toronto, I guess it costs less to ship cards in Canada...

I sure won't complain, I live in Canada!

Like others have said, Nvidia products are always like 600$CND where they "only" cost 300$US... that just sucks... for once, we get a good deal...

those prices can't be right....only 190 for a 8500? and a 7500 for 125? i thought those things are retailing for 200.... card hasn't even come out yet and suddenly the price is dropping so much? would like to know where digit-life is getting those numbers.

as close as you can get, and still not have true HDTV.... a Sony Wega. i'll prolly bump it to 800x600, hopefully i'll be able to deal with it... at worst, i'll have to increase the text size.

oop. my bad! I did a quick look at ATi's website and didn't see anything, perhaps I missed it.

damn.. good thing I can't justify buying this (no games that need/benefit from it in my collection, nor will there likely be for a good while) or my bank account would be $400 Canadian lighter.. MUST RESIST!!

ahh.. I found one other reason not to buy it (besides the fact I just bought my LE which is now a 32 DDR)! Linux drivers! unless it works ok with Radeon drivers, I won't be running Linux with this card all that quickly! few.. my bank loves me..

<< 467.50 NZD

Oh well
>>

But when you consider that geforce3's are running at ~850 NZD it looks like a pretty sweet deal.

thats it, cause the 8500 is a good deal up here in Canada, I think I'm going to sell my current Radeon and get this one.. I'm just hoping I'll be able to use Linux with that 8500 (after all it's still a Radeon series)..
