radeon 8500 incompatiblility question

.Is the radeon 8500 incompatible with an intel 850 series board? im curious cause on my d850mv i could not get it to run. any body else have problems?

There are many scores in the MadOnion 3DMark2001 results browser which are using Radeon 8500s with i850 boards, so I don't think there is.

You may want to check for any motherboard BIOS updates from your motherboard manufacturer, check intel's site to see if maybe there was an issue which was fixed with a motherboard driver update, and use the most recently released ATi driver.

You may want to specify what it does and doesn't do (Does it not boot? Boots but hangs? Gets into windows but freezes when launching a game?) so others may have a more accurate idea of what may be the problem.

No, There is no problem because I am running it right now. All the games seems to work and ATI 6037 drivers is very very stable. I am using INtel 850MVL, which I believe is same except with LAN>

well the card gave me BSODs all the time never got the damn thing to run long enough to be able to see it really work. i got screwed when i bought it too $300!!!! my GF3 ti200 works fine never got a BSOD the error is either page fault in nonpaged area or when i play cs it frezes about 5 seconds into it and the windows xp says radeon 8500/8500LE was responsible and i sent the error report a couple of times. i think i should give up on it and sell it...... anybody want an 8500 for $110? i can always rma it and get a brand new card. buy i dunno. i tried all of the drivers...

It's likely that the drivers weren't installing right or conflicting with a previous driver. My limited experience with ATI has shown me that installing ATI drivers is the tricky part, once they are installed properly everything runs fine.

Go to rage3d.com. Download and use RegCleaner. Try again.

i done 4 low level reformats. that should pretty much clean out the reg! i dunno what to do with this thing

Get recent BETA drivers (called "unofficial" on this site) from rage3d.com .

I got the same problems as you. I tried EVERYTHING (changing hardware, tweaking bios, changing graphics settings, using different drivers, you name it) for about 2 months to get the damn thing to work for more than 15 minutes in 3D games, but it just kept on freezing. I believe that the first few batches of radeon8500's were just buggy because they were initially supposed to run at much lower clock speeds, but ATI needed to bump them up to compete with nvidia. Newer cards have much better results. The only thing that kind of helped for me was to underclock the video card to 250/250, or even as low as 225/225. Sucks, but the 2D and DVD playback is still purty at least...

Oooh. I just read this thread over at Rage3D and it makes a whole lot of sense. I used to have 2 sticks of ram in my system, and taking one out seemed to help. Underclocking must've helped as well because the vid card is drawing less power. When I go home, I'll take out my 2nd hard drive and see how it is. My parents got this system off a family friend, so I'm not sure about the power supply. It's probably what's causing all my problems. Gah.
