Radeon 8500 VS Ge3Ti200

At a store that i shop for computer parts at, they have a ge3Ti200 for 300(CDN), and a Radeon8500 for 315(CDN). I have looked for benchmarks.. but havent really seen any info about which is better, all i see is that ATI has bad drivers.. doesnt that mean they can come out with good ones?.. well im going to buy one of these.. so pls put in input.

8500 is better.

The 8500 is my first ATI card... beta WinXP drivers work great. No problems so far here. It also performs better. Head over to HardOCP and look @ the 8500 Revisited Article. 8500 is also better than the Ti200.

Like everyone else said... do a search before you post a question. Chances are it's already been answered.

Geez, beat-up the poor guy!! Check: HardOCP, Sharkey extreme, Tomshardware, Anandtech. All have decent comparisions. The drivers are good, and getting better.

ATi had bad drivers. 8500 eats Ti 200 for breakfast. Nuff said.

Radeon 8500, you cant compare a Geforce 3 Ti200 to a Radeon 8500.....

A radeon 8500 is almost competitive with ti500, so it kills a ti200.. plus, there's still room for improvement on the drivers. Personally i think that by this spring the R8500 will be equal to a ti500, but that's just speculation..

Get the Radeon! you won't regret it.

That wouldn't be a bad thing necessarily, since a Ti500 will probably be the low-end or mainstream video card for Nvidia. The GeF4 is coming...

Since most Ti200's easily overclock as high or higher than the stock Ti500, that would mean the Ti200 "may" beat the 8500.
Of course you could always overclock the 8500 as well?
But, price is the big separator in this post.
With both priced roughly the same, get the 8500 without a doubt, even if a few dollars more.
If it is US prices, and a GF3 Ti200 can be had for 1/2 the price of a 8500, GF3 Ti200 all the way.
Heck, I would get a GF3 Ti200 before a GF3 Ti500 based on price/performance.
Can't beat a $99 GF3 Ti200........

I bought a 8500 based on it's potential to compete with the ti500.
I ended up returning it for the Ti500 about 4 weeks later.
Some games were great, other (Tribes 2) were unplayable.
My tv tuner wouldn't work with it at all.
The forum in Rage3d is full of people screaming for decent drivers.
Yes, the 8500 beats the ti200 in benchies, but I have a problem with ATI's optimised(comprimised) drivers, to me that's borderline fraud.
I guess based on the above, if you want a headache free card, that appears it's features will be supported for some time to come, get a geoforce.
If you have patience, and understand the 8500 may or may not ever reach it's full potential( it does have more upsides ) then go for the 8500.
